True American Dream

What is the true idea of the American Dream? It is the idea that somebody can be anything they would like to be. To achieve the true American Dream we need to understand the true definitions of freedom, responsibility, and opportunity. According to Oxford Dictionary freedom is the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint, opportunity is a set of circumstances that makes it possible to do something, and responsibility is the state or fact of having a duty to deal with something or having control over someone. These are just basic definitions they do not mean as much as the true definitions. The true definitions are what makes America what it is today. Freedom is much more than having certain powers and certain rights, it is about being truly happy with the life you are living and ensuring that everyone feels secure and safe in America. Although America is the land of endless opportunities, we take these opportunities for granted, while different parts of the world make it their life goal to have the opportunity to pursue the same dream. An opportunity is being able to change the world or at least your world for the better. Joseph Bruchac wrote the poem “Ellis Island” and in his poem he describes his grandparents experience on Ellis Island. He writes about how many people came to Ellis Island for the opportunity to fulfill their dreams for freedom or escape their old life. Whatever their dreams were, Ellis Island showed them the opportunity to change their lives. Ellis Island was more than the land of endless opportunities it was the American Dream for many
