Wilson uses Troy’s unending persistence to establish how families work to help their family, even when they dislike their position. After learning that Troy wasn’t faithful in the relationship, Rose cries,“...I held onto you, Troy. I held you tighter. You was my husband. I owed you everything I had” (34) to show how she stayed faithful to Troy and the family. Rose clung to her family because she “owed you [them] everything I [she] had” because a lone woman had no power or respectability back then, being married saved her. Since Troy was Rose’s “husband” she needed to hold on and take care him for as long as they were bound together. By showing how Rose is faithful 100 percent, Wilson reveals how complete faithfulness makes a difference on
