Trouble Of The World Religious Song Analysis

Improved Essays
The Spiritual is a religious song filled with Christian values. Spirituals shine a positive spotlight on religion. We see this in Mahalia Jackson’s ‘Trouble Of The World’, where she sings, “I’m going home to live with God.” She is implying that after death she will arrive in Heaven to reside with God.
This theme in Spirituals occasionally appears in modern Rap music. It appears in different shapes and forms. We see it appear in Tablo’s rap rendition of ‘Eyes, Nose, Lips’ when he states that his “knees are burning hot but God is cold.” Jackson’s song reflects God in a positive light, while Tablo’s work shows God turning his back on him even as he prays.
There are connections that show that there are elements of Spirituals that have survived

Elliot focuses on the history of music and the social changes that were the catalyst for all these unique sounds we hear today. He defines music as “the universal language (1)” continuously implying how impactful and connecting music has been throughout time. The first instrument was discovered in 41,000 B.C and it resembled the flute (1). Contemporary rock band Imagine Dragons sang the line “It’s a revolution, I suppose…” in their Grammy Award-winning song “Radioactive”. Surprisingly, Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson, the main character in the book The Titan’s Curse, can relate to this line, as well as the rest of the song. Although The Titan’s Curse is a fiction book based on Ancient Greek Mythology, it shares the same theme with Radioactive, a popular rock song. Both pieces of literature show the reader that you can you can overcome your obstacles if you are willing to do it. However, Riordan uses metaphors to convey this theme, while Imagine Dragons uses imagery to represent the same thing.…

My Personal Playlist and Transcendental Justification Icarus, Bastille, 2011 I personally love this song simply because of the Greek Mythology reference, as well as the really cool entrance; and I think that transcendentalists might like it as well. My interpretation of this song is that it is talking about how young people search for happiness by doing dangerous and risky things (i.e. Icarus got excited and flew up towards the sun), that may lead to them getting hurt (the sun melting the wax off of Icarus’s wings and him falling to his death. Transcendentalists would like this interpretation, because they believe that although people try to bring happiness into their lives by relying on material things (ex. Drugs and Alcohol), this will never…

The short story “Sudden” written by Duncan Long and the poem “Anthem for Doomed Youth” by Wilfred Owen presents how war has corrupted our humanity throughout history. Writers reflect their belief on the tragedy of war. This is presented through Duncan Long’s story which shows the reality of war that is brutal and violent through imagery and characterisation, suggests that war destroys innocence in youth. Through the use of symbolization, the poet, Wilfred Owen explores the idea that deaths in war are not truly commemorated. Therefore, the authors convey a message that war is not glorious or honourable and will never bring peace; however war destroys lives and is meaningless.…

Introduction Concept Analysis, though a powerful tool, was only adapted to be used in nursing towards the end of the last Century. In 1986, Walker and Avant adapted the process, that John Wilson developed in 1960 for analyzing concepts, to be used in nursing (McEwen, 2014, p. 58). Prior to this time, there were no clear processes laid out to define the analysis of concepts in the nursing practice. Walker and Avant based their process “on Wilson’s method and clarified his methods so that graduate students could apply them to examine phenomena of interest to nurses” (McEwen, 2014, p. 58).…

The Hymn to the Aten is a poem written by pharaoh Amenhotep IV who, around 1346 BC in Egypt, created a monotheistic kingdom worshipping the god Aten, god of the sun disk. Amenhotep’s poem is one of praise for Aten as he claims that the god has created life for all and everything that exists on Earth, making him superior to all the other gods. The sun is a very powerful object as it not only provides light to the world but it is also a mean of survival. It appears odd that ruler Amenhotep would pronounce Aten, the god of the sun disk as the supposed supreme god and not Ra, the Egyptian god of the sun.…

Another media would be the song "Bad Religion" by Frank Ocean, which strengthens and perpetuates homophobia. The song is a story of a man talking to his taxi driver as if he is a therapist. The man feels overwhelmed by his own issues, thus he does not care if the ride is costly; he leaves the meter running, and requests to drive through streets during rush hour. During the chorus section in the lyrics, the driver comforts him by praying for him. The man believes the praying does no harm to him, however, it conflicts with his religious belief.…

Through time, several historical events have been represented by the principles of hatred, crime and inhumanity. History has told us that hatred and inhumanity comes in many shapes, whether it is due to skin colour, religion or even political persuasions. Furthermore it has told us that it easily evolves into something horrifying. But most importantly history tells us that no hatred or crime are so big that we as human beings can’t cope with it and change it for the better. In the column “In Ireland, Tuesdays Grace” Bono describes the horrifying events that took place on January 30, 1972, a day better known as “Bloody Sunday”.…
