How are great movies created? That is an interesting question. New century films are created with different genres that are intermitted with other genres. This film text is primarily about a Superhero but it adds progressive Spy tropes and Science Fiction to this original comic book character, Black Panther. I read this while informing myself more about this film and I think it really defines the film itself, the fact that it doesn’t talk about her blackness, not about black people problems but everybody’s ones. The diaspora, or what is the same, the dispersion of a population group of people from their country of birth or origin —in this case, Black African Filmmakers dispersing beyond Africa—, appears in this film regarding that is a film made in the United States, with known American actors as Samuel L. Jackson. In this film, Kasi Lemmons also thought about the sexism, mostly against women. She tries to beat it by showing a story built around the strength and independence of the female characters.…

The definition of a black film would seem to be an easy standard to mutually agree on. Films about the people and culture of the African diaspora would satisfy most definitions, but issues arrive when black people are poorly represented and stereotyped or when the definition excludes other cultures from discussing black culture when they could also give a fair and thoughtful representation in Black Cinema. Thomas Lott argues that it can be hard to identify what makes quality black films because there must be an analysis of the separate concepts blackness and cinema. In his article “ “A No-Theory Theory of Contemporary Black Cinema,” Lot provides a compelling reason why his no theory approach provides a satisfying and open-ended approach to defining Black Cinema. Lott references Thomas Cripps’ Black film as Genre, Cripps to discuss a proposed definition of Black films to be defined as movies produced, written, directed, performed by, and performed for black people.…

An ethical dilemma is one in which an individual has to choose between two alternatives, both of which are morally right but in conflict. Morals and ethics are inseparable. They both deal with demands of right and wrong. Resolving ethical dilemmas are rarely simple and very often involve revisiting related dilemmas that recur within societies.…

In 1966, the Black Panther Party was founded by Huey P. Newton and Bobby Seale to prevent police brutality against African Americans in Oakland, California. Around this time, after the landmark United States Supreme Court ruled the Brown v. Board of Education case, which stated that the segregation of schools were unconstitutional, African Americans continued to face poverty and economic inequality. They helplessly strived for community improvement and equal human rights and tried to find an effective way to do so. The Black Panther Party continuously protested how discriminatory police practices were affecting African American communities. They are known for their use of arms and techniques to protect themselves and were labeled as a “threat…

Though this time around told by a point of view often ignored but always…

Another way that this film challenges hegemonic ideas of the black community is through character development. While the antagonists of the film are depicted as ruthless criminals at times, they are developed as multi-dimensional. There are scenes in the movie that show the criminals as having a sense of humor, a sense of reason, and empathy, including a short scene involving the criminals having a fairly civilized debate about foreign affairs. This kind of depiction shows that even the antagonists of the film are humans and that they are not just…

The film shows how the panther were armed through the whole entire film even in the survival programs when they were not armed according to the Milford Act in California. The film quickly mentioned and maintained self-defense acts but they do not explain the survival programs as it represented a logical transition in the Black Panther Party. It is smart for us to study the politics of the Black Panther and understand their struggle, the politics is a revolutionary act in the United States. It is important to study and learn who came before us such as the Black Panther Party, the white supremacy is what the Black Panthers were against and why they went so strenuous for their own movement but the film didn’t express that hard enough in the film. Nelson failed to express what Elaine Brown was the most important person in the Black Panthers also she was responsible for the survival protection programs, he lingered footage about Elaine but he didn’t express why she was…

To have a mainstream superhero movie that has strong female characters, an all-black main cast with a white “sidekick” character, and a message to the audience that reminds them that social inequality still exists is refreshing to say the least. As of March 24th, Black Panther is the top-grossing superhero film of all time globally earning $1.237 billion in ticket sales (McClintock), which means that mass amounts of people are seeing this movie and its message. Weaving current social issues into popular art culture, like movies, gets these social issues into a broader audience, to an audience that may have not known about these social issues beforehand. It is vital that the world keeps creating these forms of media that includes various social issues in them because the implications are that they will reach a more vast audience that may be able to fight back against these social issues. Because in the end, Black Panther is “just another superhero movie” and cannot end social inequality on its own, but it can be a jumping-off point for the generation that…
