Immortal, for 4 trumpets and 4 trombones, and 1 Person to blow up Balloons.

The Trumpets will stand in position at the right of the stage. 3 will be designated as “followers” and will stand in a straight vertical line facing the left of the stage, in front of the remaining trumpet player, who is designated as the leader. The Trombones will set up in the same fashion, but mirroring the Trumpets. the Trombones and the Trumpets should be no closer than 5 feet apart. Similar to the below diagram. The followers of each group must have a practice mute in, while the leaders of the group should be without mute, and throughout the entire piece, the trumpet followers should stay in half-valve. The leader of both groups should move at their own uncoordinated, but steady, tempos and should start the initial phrase when they at any time within the first few seconds of the piece. The followers in each group should begin to play soon after the leader starts, but at a much quieter volume. The followers should try to match and echo the melodic outline of the lead players to the best of their ability, but do not have to be exact at this time. However, during the marked held notes, the leaders and the followers are expected to be as in tune as possible (until the leader is satisfied.) If only one note is shown, then the group (meaning followers and leader) is to play in unison. If multiple notes are shown, than it is expected of the group to play a chord. All of the notes of the chord will be displayed, but the note of a specific follower will be the only note not in parentheses. The Note of the lead player is always the top note of the

In this video, the group starts off seated in a circle passing a balloon to one another. The gentleman sitting next the therapist starts off while trying to throw the balloon at someone, but it misses, and the therapist collects the balloon and returns it to him. He then takes the balloon and rubs it on his head and passes it back to the therapist with his head. The therapist then takes on that movement and maneuvers the balloon behind her back and rolls it off to the next person. Now, the rest of the group members are joining in this movement as a way to pass the balloon on to the next person, shared activity.…

I believe myself to be outspoken enough to command band members to dress to one another, yet not too intimidating as to drain the fun out of the process. Since freshman year, I have improved upon my dressing to forms and getting to the right dot at the right time and having participated in theater has augmented my appreciation for correct spacing and saying true to the drill written in our drill books. I would love to see both underclassmen and upperclassmen improve upon their marching skills and ability to make forms and I would be honored to help them do so. As a brass captain, I feel as though I would benefit the band because I am enthusiastic and would encourage the brass put forth 100% effort toward every warm-up and play-through of the music. I would be sure to emphasize nuances of the music in rehearsal, such as dynamic changes and accent marks because I believe that a musical performance--no matter the ensemble--is not truly successful without genuine expression.…

Successful organizations all require 2 things: a strong team and strong leaders to direct the team to victory, and the Marching Pioneers is no exception to this rule. With an ensemble as large as the Marching Pioneers, there is no physically possible way 4 top tier leaders can give everyone the attention they need. Section leaders are necessary for the success of our fine organization, and there’s nothing more satisfying than being part of a leadership team that can add to the already growing success of this talented group. Here are just a few reasons why I would like to be in the next generation of saxophone section leaders. To be a section leader is like being given a lump of clay and being told to mold into the Statue of David.…

TAYLA LIPKIEWICZ Lesson 1: We spent the first lesson learning the melody to the song “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” as it is song we, as an ensemble, decided to learn. As this song is very fast and upbeat we spent a fair bit of time trying to get the right speed and the right lyrics before we began to add in harmonies. I feel like as an ensemble we need to work on listening to the conductor and not talking when we are supposed to be singing. I feel as if I contributed very well and committed myself to learning the song.…

Playing the trombone is one of my greatest skills that I developed over time in my life. I may seem effortless when I play the trombone, but it took me several challenges to get to where I am. When I was in sixth grade, a middle school band inspired me to join band in middle school. With my family being a “fresh off the boat” immigrant, however, I was insecure about myself since I was not much fluent in English. Worse than expected, my first band experience disappointed me.…

When I got to Lao Family building, my sister went to get us a chair so we can sit and put our stuff down. The room that they were practicing has no chairs but a small stage and a few small storage room for chairs and a table in the corner. If there wasn’t a stage, it would feel like a small empty gym. The stage has a huge picture of our Hmong president General Vang Pao hanging on the wall.…

I am an intermediate mariachi player, I play the guitar and vihuela. I'm always learning new things and observing others. When the group is performing I not only perform, but I'm the assistant director and direct my companions to make sure we stay together and are aware of what we are doing. As assistant director of our group when members don’t know something they ask me, and I always have an answer or else I find out and make sure everyone knows. For instance, whenever we are performing I will suggest a song and count it of to let us know we are starting, then I will announce if there is a chorus or instrumental part to let them know when to play, lastly I will let them know when the ending is near to have them ready to end.…

On December 2nd, 2016 at the Constance theatre the dance department presented a show called Agbedidi. The show, directed and choreographed by Mohamed DaCosta and Trent D. Williams, Jr., displayed a combination of Traditional African and Contemporary Dance. The house buzzed with excitement as the start of the show approached. It is quite encouraged to see such a large audience at an event, but this audience also brought a positive, vibrant atmosphere for the dancers to soak up. I was curious to see what this year’s performance would look like.…
