Identity is an important aspect of life, and should not be taken lightly. I chose this to be my theme statement because it constantly comes up in the book and it's what the book is based on. Almost all the conflict in the book begins with Tris’s identity crisis. The post apocalyptic society of Chicago is an interesting place. The community is divided up into 7 factions, each has its own “personality” or way the members behave. Tris gets a test done in the beginning to determine her faction. She gets some unexpected results. “People who get this kind of result are... “She looks over her shoulder like she expects someone to appear behind her”... are called... Divergent.” She says the last word so quietly that I almost don't hear
