Tris - Main character. Strong willed 16-year-old who hates showing weakness, and has to be stronger than everyone else at the same time because of her divergence. To be divergent is special. No one knows what it really means, but you can manipulate your way through serums and seem to have more control over your unconscious brain. Tris must face this fact about herself more and more often since she transferred to Dauntless and the simulation war in Divergent.
Tobias (Four) Eaton - Son of Evelyn Johnson-Eaton and Marcus Eaton and main love interest of Tris. 18-year-old Dauntless initiation instructor. He shows some authority once the faction is broken up, but lacks a certain drive to be the leader even-though he would be the perfect leader for the remaining Dauntless.

He tries to steal important information from Tris, joins back with Erudite and puts a target on his back for a while. But then he surprises everyone by faking Tris’s execution and saving her life.
Marcus Eaton- The father of Tobias and leader of Abnegation. He was married to Evelyn Johnson-Eaton. He is also the only living council member of Abnegation after the symulation attack by the Erudite/Dauntless in Divergent.
Jeanine Matthews - Leader of the Erudite faction only because of her IQ score. Jeanine is the main antagonist and the leader behind the Erudite/Dauntless alliance against the Abnegation.
Evelyn Johnson-Eaton - Tobias’s mother. Leader of the factionless. Tris thinks Evelyn is selfish, dishonest, and lying about getting kicked out of
