Dylan hauled the rock at the metal bolt, breaking it in half and leaving an astronomic dent in the door. They rushed into the dust-filled factory and ventured around the dozens of filthy rooms. It was obvious no one had lived here for decades by the thick, musty odor and dust-caked furniture in the foyers and rooms. Pollution and the acid smell filled the loosely hung cloud-filled sky. Complete desolation was defined by this place. Untouched by people, yet destroyed by the weather for hundreds of years. They were all alone, yet sensing company right under their noses. “Hello?! Help me!!!!!” Cried a voice from a room a couple feet from where Tris and Dylan were investigating. They sprinted to where they guessed that the shriek came from and studied the room for any possible sign of life. There it was, Mikey, stuck under a heavy, iron machine in the back room of the factory. His weak head poked out from the edge of the enormous machine and he looked as though he was in severe pain. A pool of dark, thin blood covered the concrete flooring underneath Mikey. Dylan’s face began to get woozy and she felt as though she was going to throw …show more content…
Dylan helped up Mikey from his hospital bed on the floor and tried to carry him to a more secure zone. Mikey winced from the horrid pain in his lower body and could barely walk or even move for that matter. Dylan forced Tris to take over the job of a crutch, for she couldn’t stand the thought that a giant, bloody wound was only a few feet away from her. As the three children were leaving the tortuous factory, they heard a low toned chuckle coming from a corner of the main room. Dylan and Tris stopped short in their tracks and immediately wanted to investigate who else was in their presence. They sat Mikey down on an old, yet sturdy wooden chair in the main room and crept around the walls to search for the strange person that had laughed before. The two teen investigators tip-toed around the main room of the colossal, creepy factory to try and find the mysterious person. A blaring rattle came from another hidden room directly off of the main room and the girls pounced on the chance to catch this person. They hopped right into the guilty room holding a man that was crouched behind a dusty, heavily used bed. “Get up! Who are you?” Screamed Tris with extreme

The brisk trek through rough wilderness had taken its toll on the portly fog of a man. Now wheezing, he bowed low to prop up his arching frame on a knee high boulder on the side of the path. He watched with passive intrigue as giant sweat droplets fell to earth. Each one making a crater in the previously undisturbed soil carpeting the seldom used trail leading up to the Burbank overlook. He wanted nothing more than to feel the wind blow across his puffy face when he got to the top.…

As I walked down the hallway of the Memorial Union, I search for the staircase that will bring me to my haven for the next hour and a half. After I expressed worry to my friend that I would have nowhere to go during my long class breaks, she told me that Sparky’s Den is where she goes to hang out between classes. As I descended down the gray staircase, I pictured what the room would look like; with a name like Sparky’s Den, I saw a crowded room with dark brown wooden paneling on the walls, dim lighting, red, plush booths lining the walls, and gives off a sports bar atmosphere; you can imagine my surprise when I reached the bottom of the stairs and looked into a bland, white room with light brown finishes lining the walls with thirty-or-so tables and booths, and two long couches. As I walked through the opening in the room, I was hit with a cool blast of air. While the Memorial Union was cool, it was no match to the artic breeze of Sparky’s Den; as the cold air hit me, goosebumps rose all over my body.…

He was nine years old when he watched his older brother’s hand get cut off by a lawnmower. Jealousy had infested him earlier that afternoon, when Alex announced that he was going to cut the grass and no, only he was going to do it. His small fists were tight with envy as he watched Alex start that gloriously loud machine that throttled back onto itself as though having a fit, spewing blades of grass like curses, reeking of greasy black gasoline. The monster spasmed and bucked under Alex’s grip like Bucephalus, a throaty angry growl thrumming under its hideous black mouth, but Alex, king in his Hanes white undershirt and jeans, had it subjugated under his reign. A mighty Nebuchadnezzar atop his lion, Alex roared over the grass: plowing through the masses, decapitated grass whipping out…

“When we are children we seldom think of the future. This innocence leaves us free to enjoy ourselves as few adults can. The day we fret about the future is the day we leave our childhood behind” (Patrick Rothfuss). Most characterize childhood as valuable, precious and peaceful, and in some cases, our childhood may determine whom we will grow to be. However, in the novel “Lullabies for Little Criminals”, Baby’s childhood can be seen as a loss of innocence, as it was corrupted into something unpleasant.…
