In recent discussions of the planet Mars, a controversial issue is whether or not the time, money, and resources spent to get to Mars would be worth the trip. Two articles published in the New York Times present contrasting perspectives on the topic. On one hand Lawrence M. Krauss argues that The trip to Mars is definitely worth the risk and resources, just not the trip home. On the other hand, however, Ed Regis contends that Mars is a miserable planet that is not worth the effort. After reviewing both articles, I have come to agree with Krauss in most aspects, and most certainly that a one-way trip to mars is the preferable option, because it would best fit our scientific needs regarding exploration as well as species expansion and data collection.
