Genuine Happiness
While preparing for the trip to Isla Mujeres, Mexico, I coud not fathom being in a relaxing atmosphere. I could not wait to get away from the stress and every day things going on in my life. Being emotionally distraught by events taking place in my life such as my relationship of 5 years ending, grandpa passing away, and mom being in and out of the hospital from a previous surgery gone wrong, took a toll on me. Saddened by that all, I was physically exhausted from my daily routine of school, work, teaching kids in church, and babysitting every day. The thought of being on an island in Mexico, relaxing in the white sand and clear water was so moving for me. Little did I know that I was going to be taught a lesson that would

He was laying in a black and yellow hammock, handcrafted by his mother. Crying for his Papa to come and pick him up, he continued to swing back in forth in his hammock. As soon as he got picked up, he started laughing and smiling. There was nothing more beautiful than to see his dad's reaction. They were both full of compassion and love. At that moment in their life, nothing else mattered. Antonio turned his little head full of hair and looked at me with a big smile. I walked over to him with a smile on my face and stuck my arms out. "Come to me?" I said. I was waiting for him to turn back to his Papa and cradle his arms into his dad, except I got a different reaction. He turned to me and stuck his arms out too. In shock, his Papa handed him over to me. I just gazed into his beautiful deep blue eyes as he was looking at me. His heart was full of happiness. He had no idea. No idea that his parents were living in poverty. That the Island he lived on had just been robbed the week before. That the people down the street had just lost their dog due to a shark eating it. Instead, he just had an innocent, sweet smile. As I continued to talk to him and say random things, he just laughed. His drool spreading all over me, I could not help but to laugh back. At that moment, I had felt Genuine

I woke up and I only had two hours of sleep, and my flight was leaving in two more hours. My head was pounding, I had a terrible headache and my throat was dry and in need of water, so I drank lots of Gatorade to avoid dehydration. My father picked me up at Renata’s house, and then we went to pick up my luggage and my aunts who were traveling back to the United States with me. Guasave had no airport so we had to go to Los Mochis; it was a thirty minutes drive and all I had in my mind was how much I would miss my family and friends, my mom cooking, my favorite places in Guasave such as Aroma café, the beach, the seafood, and the delicious restaurants.…

Slide 1: The first highlight of my summer was going to Isla Mujeres and Tulum in Mexico as my family and I’s yearly trip to somewhere in the world. I went with my mom Mari, my dad Humberto, my sister Anais, and I Celine. Another tradition that we did was go to my parents church that they got married in to see how much it has changed. A Lot of the time we went to the beach and either brought our own food or bought some from the restaurants along…

After the joyous reunion hugs and hellos, I headed off to my classroom that I would be helping in. Glancing out the window I instantly knew that it was one of those picture perfect days.
