Trip To Haiti Essay

Decent Essays
A week before I plan to fly out to Haiti, I will go ahead and ship my off-roading bicycle to the guest house that I will be staying in within the Croix des Bouquets. This bike will be my most common means of transportation throughout my trip. On May 13th, I will be flying from the Chattanooga Airport to the Port-au-Prince International Airport in Haiti. Once I have arrived, I will be taking a taxi from the airport to the host family’s house. The only times during the duration of my trip that I will be in need of taxi will be going to and from the airport and traveling from the host’s family’s house to the orphanage. The total cost of my taxi rides will be roughly 2,034 gourdes ($30 U.S.).

For pick up from the hotel guest calls the hotel right before their flight takes off and lets the hotel know the time they will be arriving and there will be a van wait for them there. For going to downtown Newport the guest just has to call down to the front desk and set up a time for the shuttle to pick them up and it will be waiting for them at that time. For going back from downtown the guest will call the hotel one hour before desired pickup time and let the hotel know the time and the location the guest will be. For leaving the hotel the guest lets the front desk know the night before departure the time of the flight, so the hotel can have the van ready for the morning. This is great for our guest because most hotels in the area do not offer this service and it makes it much easier for guest who are not in driving…

As a Florida House Representative when I took my oath of office I made the commitment to be the indefatigable voice of the voiceless, a pillar of Justice, and the irrefutable defender of my constituents; and when I received notice of the “No Haitians” need apply ad in the RockLand County’s Penny Saver I was disgusted and outraged. I am not only a State Representative, I am Haitian, a nurse of 30 plus years with a license in Florida , and I represent District 108, which happens to be the largest Haitian populated districts in Miami Dade County, so for me this is personal. I cannot fathom that in the 21st Century we are still continuing to deal with violations of civil, human, and constitutional right. This ad is shameful and cannot be tossed…

Have you ever loved someone so much, you’d give an arm for them? Not the expression, no literally give an arm for? Growing up in Haiti with my brother, I remember teasing and pushing him around, because thats what big brothers are supposed to do. One of the things I remember most vividly about him was waking up every morning to play soccer with a tennis ball we found, and racing each other all through town with our hands behind our backs pretending we were cars. Everyday wasn’t always perfect, like those days we spent chasing each other because we fought, just like all siblings, and I didn't always appreciate having a younger brother.…

Rather than guests having to wait for unreliable taxis that can often charge ridiculous prices, Hilton’s shuttle van service does the opposite (Hilton Taxi Service, 2011). Guests are no longer stranded; they don’t have to worry about rental cars. This is especially important for the business traveler, who is looking to get from point A to point B with minimal stress.…
