1. Education is so important to me. I’ve worked at pretty average jobs since I dropped out of college over ten years ago. My life has changed completely since then, but I had begun to wonder if I would ever be able to return to school to finish my degree. I worried that it had been too long and I would no longer be capable of handling the rigorous workload. I have proved my fears wrong! I am doing better today than I ever have before, and I enjoy all of my classes. Beyond the obvious value of education being the path to my chosen career, I am finding that all of my classes are enriching my life. I have been able to apply the knowledge I have gotten in every single class in my life. I am going to school with the goal of earning my Master's in medical social work. I have also learned that I could realistically earn a minor in Psychology and possibly a minor in Philosophy, so I have decided to make that an additional goal for myself. Currently, I would like to become a hospice social worker. I want to work in a field where I feel like I can make a profound impact on people's lives, especially when they are going through a difficult time. I have worked at a rape crisis center before, so I know I can endure the emotional stress that comes along with a career in social work. I am passionate about connecting with people and I have a talent for listening and understanding that I would like to develop. I feel like the extra education in both Psychology and Philosophy will be incredibly valuable to me as a social worker, especially if I do get to work with patients and their families in a hospice setting.
