Trinity Perichoresis Relationship Report

Decent Essays
This weeks discussion forum asks to talk about the perichoresis relationship of the Trinity. Before this class, I knew that there was a "father", "son", and "spirit" but never dove deep into the meanings or their relationship together. I knew that there was only one God, but I didn't understand the concept of God being three persons. Every time I asked about it, I got the scenario of an egg, just as Grenz and Smith discussed. There is the yolk, egg white, and shell all serving their own roles, but together they are one. The difference in the scenario I heard was that if the egg was missing a part, such as a yolk, the egg was no longer complete. This was used to show that without the father, son, and spirit together, God was not complete, because

Which is how to refer to the three, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, without diminishing one or increasing another. Ware careful expresses this need to refer to each with perspective almost to divide their roles. I’m a bit more careful to taking this approach, because I believe it leads to our general concern of, God does this, and Jesus does that, so that means the Holy Spirit is only responsible for this. I prefer to leave it at God is one working in us through three means of operation.…

Early over the course of AP Irenaeus claims that God is Father to the faithful '[…] since "in the last times" he opened the testament for the adoption as sons; while to the Jews He is as Lord and Lawgiver […]'. Crucially, this claim frames the Christian understanding of God according to a Trinitarian pattern, and one which passes necessarily through Jesus. This, follows, insofar as in him the new testament “was opened”, and only with respect to the only begotten and incarnated Son we can understand God as the Holy Trinity and ourselves as adopted sons. Hence, Jesus establishes the conditions for understanding the Old and the New Testament as in continuity with one another, as well as the God of Israel in a Trinitarian way.…

Summary: Jesus main point of teaching was to teach about the concept of the Kingdom. Staples points out that Kingdom is not referring to a territory of land, but rather what God rules. Staples splits the kingdom into three tenses or parts: past, present, and future. Past reality refers to God’s reign through Jesus. Everything God did in the beginning was to “set the stage” for Jesus and his deeds.…

Thus, Christianity is in Schelling’s perspective the only recipient of the divine revelation that once again discloses God’s spiritual oneness to humanity. However, although he decides to prioritize a particular tradition, the result of Schelling’s exploration of monotheism is God as the unfathomable unity of the three potencies. Moreover, we have to keep in mind God’s absolute freedom as regard having or not a relationship to being, or to any form of presentation of himself. Thus, it is fair to say that in Schelling’s view God is free enough to deny himself as Trinity. Hence, on one hand the Trinity is the best presentation possible of God’s essence as it reflects the three principles in their relationship with one another and with God.…

Understanding the interrelationship of the Trinity is vital in order to truly appreciate the work of the Trinity in our lives. By looking at the unique nature of the Triune God we are able to focus our attention on Him and begin to realize our “potential” and purpose in Him. The Triune God is the perfection of both diversity and unity simultaneously. With that said, as humans we can’t fully understand those terms, but use them as a sort of expression in order to assist us in our personal journey with God. We must constantly recognize the limitations of our minds and speech when learning about theology, which doesn’t still hinder this personal experience from edifying us.…
