In the United States there has been an outbreak of gang activities. The influx of gang activity has made living in urban areas more dangerous than ever. One gang that is helping to fuel gang activity is the Trinitarios, a Dominican/Caribbean gang. This gang is tied closely with the Dominican Republic in both history and symbols. The Trinitarios are one of the most violent gangs in New York State because of their use unconventional weapons and the way they transport drugs. This is because instead of using a gun to attack people or rival gangs, they use a machete (Machete Slaughter). In the Dominican Republic machetes are so common because they use them to cut through the thick rain forests and jungle (Machete Slaughter). In the History Channel’s “Machete Slaughter” a former gangster talked about how it is easy to kill someone far away with a gun, but it is a person a real gangster to kill a person when you are up close and personal with the person and you watch the person die. A gun can be put in a pocket or the waistband of a pair of pants, but a machete would have to hide it in the leg of a pair of pants or up a shirt sleeve.
