This is because instead of using a gun to attack people or rival gangs, they use a machete (Machete Slaughter). One reason for using a machete is that it was the most common weapon in the Dominican Republic. In the Dominican Republic machetes are so common because they use them to cut through the thick rain forests and jungle (Machete Slaughter). In New York City they decided to use them as their weapon of choice. In the History Channel’s “Machete Slaughter” a former gangster talked about how it is easy to kill someone far away with a gun, but it is a person a real gangster to kill a person when you are up close and personal with the person and you watch the person die. Hiding these machetes would be a huge draw back to using one. A gun can be put in a pocket or the waistband of a pair of pants, but a machete would have to hide it in the leg of a pair of pants or up a shirt sleeve. They are involved in: drug sells and trafficking, robbery, kidnapping, prison protection, and money laundering. Drugs are by far their largest source of money for the gang (Carlin). Their market turf (where they sell and traffic drugs) is in the seven point’s district in New York City. They also operate in the Washington Heights area of the city (Machete Slaughter). “The main drugs the Trinitarios deal with are cocaine, marijuana, heroin, and ecstasy” (Olmstead). The Trinitarios have an unusual way of getting their drugs into the United States. They do this by having human mules or “boofing” the drugs. Human mules or “boofing” is where the drugs are hide within someone’s body. This is done by putting the drugs in a balloon or plastic bag and then ingested into the body (Carlin). Carrying drug in this way is very dangerous because if that bag breaks or bust, the person that has the drugs inside of their body just had a large amount of drugs enter his or her system in a small amount of time. Typically if that occurs the person will likely die from a drug overdose. The Trinitarios were the first to really use this technique of getting drugs into the United States (Olmstead). The seven point’s area of the city is a strategic location for selling and trafficking drugs in New York and New Jersey. Some sources suggests that the Trinitarios get their drugs from the Dominican
