Tribute Speech For Father

River, I am so honored and humbled that you are my son. Your accomplishments on and off the field have brought me such pride and happiness. Throughout the years as people would talk about that kid that could hit the ball a mile, not knowing you were mine, always made me bow my chest out a little more. I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to be your coach throughout the years. Those memories can and never will be forgotten. They are truly some of the best times of my life. To all the seniors that cared about me as an quiet incoming freshman, I owe them everything that I have accomplished this year. So, when they laid out on the field after conceding a PK in double overtime, I felt it my personal mission to help each and every one of them up and tell them about the great game that they had just played. It is because of this interconnected care that we have between each other that we were even in the position that we were…

In her speech for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Memorial Convocation “From Black Power to Black Lives Matter,” she asked her audience, “What can you do and what are you doing?” This question resonated with me for I have asked myself the same question. I couldn't wait to get back on that field in front of those scouts and show them that I had become a far better player than I was the year before. I had put so much effort into getting better in all aspects of my game and I knew I was poised to have a great tryout. After hours days that felt like years of grueling work in the weight room and in the batting cages, the day had come to tryout to punch my ticket to Long Beach. At that point, I went out on that field and did what I loved to do.…

We was down by one run, I had the chance to win the game. My daddy had pulled me to the side, and said, “You are going to have a chance to win this game, believe in yourself, and you can do it.” Getting in the box, I was scared to death. I did not want to screw up and everyone abhor me, so I took a deep breath, stepped in the box, and did my…

I hadn’t seen many of my friends from the team over the summer, soI got to see my friends from the team one last time. For me, it was the last time I would be in front of this crowd as a Wildcat because the next week I was moving to Clinton Mississippi to play baseball at the college level for the Mississippi College Choctaws. As the athletic director started walking down the line of players and handing them there rings, I thought back on how awesome my story in the game of baseball is and how much this game has taught me. When my ring was handed to me, the excitement of another ring and finally a true sense of ownership of it was the icing on the cake but this cake was 13 years in the making. As my ring sits on my desk, to everyone else in the world, it is simple piece of metal that is hard to get.…
