The buffalo had the power to keep them alive but when it was taken away so did the some of the tribe. That shows that rituals hold power. Even in literature, the importance of rituals is noticeable. In the poem “Lost Sisters”, foot binding was used as ritual. At a young age, children had no right to make any objections regarding getting their feet bound. It was a ritual followed because it was thought to be beautiful and was a ritual used my individuals of the upper class. Foot binding displayed that the women didn’t need to work and were ready for marriage. Women with their feet bound were called lotus feet. Although it was a ritual frowned upon in the 20th Century, it was a significant ritual for centuries.
