The three targeted areas are urgently needed by the family system from the assessment are a stable home, an interaction between siblings, and addressing the major ongoing problem within the family. For a stable home, in the movie scene, it appears how unstable the Grapes family home is, the house is damaged, and they did not have enough money to rebuild it or fix the parts that were falling apart. The second target area is the interaction between siblings, they did not express their feelings towards each other or shared feelings among each other and instead kept it to themselves and left it hanging. It kind of goes with my third point which is addressing the major ongoing problem within the family. No one ever talked about the struggles the family was facing.…

    1. What does Bowen mean by differentiation? We have already discussed whether or not the parents in the Family Crucible are or are not differentiated. Look at them again, however, and give me at least five specific examples to support your conclusion as to whether or not they are differentiated (five for each parent). Bowen believes that a person is a differentiated individual when they can successfully regulate their emotions.…

To further comprehend the motives and interactions between the family members, one can use Bowen’s family systems theory, clarifying triangulation in the book. Triangulation essential means that one individual, within a family or group, serves as a mediator between two individuals who do not communicate. The best example of triangulation in this book subsists a Brian, as he stood as the communicator between Anna and Sara. Knowing that Sara would influence Anna’s decision, Brian permitted Anna to stay at the fire station. Brian not only supported Sara as his parent, with the best intentions to save Kate, but he also recognized that Anna deserved the right to her own body.…

Triangulation is where two people that are in a relationship (any type) are unstable, and to bring stability to the relationship they bring an outside force. This can either be another person or an activity. For example, a couple could be seeing a therapist, the therapist would be the third person, but it can also be an activity (L. Brookner, personal communication, October 30, 2015). An example of this would be a couple that plays video games together. A person that has a high differentiation needs fewer triangles than people that have low differentiation.…

Doing a Genogram about my family history, beliefs, and culture is somewhat difficult for me due to a number of reasons. One being that I never met my biological father therefore don’t know anything of the family background that compiles half of my genetic make up, another reason being because I know very little of my mother’s extended family, and frankly because I don’t think we really have many structured family beliefs. Before I dive into the cultural beliefs that my family has, let me quickly explain my family dynamic. My mother was one of two daughters. My aunt Debra moved to Texas before I was born and to this day I have never met her or anyone in her family.…
