During the trade, some European countries had control over the different slave trades that was going on. The Spanish took some of the African slaves to the Caribbean for their rich soil. The French and English controlled over half of the transatlantic slave trade, and a large sum of the human cargo from West Africa. The Ashanti tribe is the largest tribe in the region of Ghana, so when the French and English came, they wanted war. Tribal wars were big when the settlers came and took over their land. Most of the slaves were dying for diseases brought over from Europe. Since the Africans was good workers, they were used to working in tropical climate. The slave trade alone had a major impact on the economic development of the modern world. Many Africans resisted enslavement and rebelled against slavery to be free. They were chained around their necks and ankle, to be put at the bottom of a ship for up to three to six months. The Middle Passage was famous for the brutality and for the overcrowded Africans.
