Did you know that the average speed of a tornado is 30 miles per hour? Well, the Tri-State Tornado traveled 70 miles per hour. The average distance of a tornado is 100 miles. It killed 695 people, and injured 2027 people. It was the most deadly tornado ever to occur, so many people remember it. The Tri-State Tornado occurred in Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana. (Tornadoes devastate Tupelo and Gainesville) Firstly, a tornado is a spinning vortex of wind, which can carry anything up to about 75 tons. If a tornado is in your area, do not stay in your car. If you are outside, find a field away from any large objects, so that the tornado cannot pick up anything and crush you. Also, do not return to your home until “Okayed” by an official officer, so you are safe. Tornado warnings and watches can help to survive a tornado.
