Tri-State Middle School is located in an urban setting with a population of about 1,100 students in grades 5-8. The school has gone through three principals in the last five years. Tri-States has a very diverse student population with the largest population being Hispanic students. About one-fourth of the students served comes from the local projects. The school employs 46 teachers with a 20% turnover rate. The experience of the teachers ranges from Novus to mid-career. Parental Involvement is at an all-time low and to add to the situation the previous administrator did not suggest a plan for the 3-day school in-service.

Based on the scenario, as the new principal of Tri-State Middle School, I would employ the Authoritative Leadership style. According to the information provided, the school has seen three administrators in the past three years; therefore, the principal must approach his management responsibilities from an Authoritative perspective; however, he must also embody the traits and characteristics of a Transformational Leader. It is important the new administrator remain self-conscious of the school culture and the morale of the employees. The new administrator would benefit from by maintaining a self-management style and being ever so vigilant of the school’s climate.
