Scummy old Trenton, New Jersey is not a place most people want to live. Although he may have gotten used to it, especially if he is from the "burg". Thugs line the streets along with solicitors. The brick storefronts that line Stark Street are aged and run down, almost as though they have never been updated. The streets are lank and taut. For some of the women in this part of town, it may be as though Street-ignorant white women invading a black man's gym." (45) This part of town lets off a worrisome feel and may feel as though the author is trying to allow the reader to feel as though they are in Trenton with the characters of the book. Therefore, it is hard for one not to feel as though they are in Trenton themselves.
