The 1990s were a decade when people developed their own style by mixing top names with mass brands. (Frankel). Fashion in 1970’s included bright colors, polyester material, and flared pants. In the 1980’s had lots of brown and tan color clothes, but had bright colored sunglasses and accessories. The 1990s included many different types of fashion trends which influenced many different things.
In the 1990s, the internet became of age. It was becoming very popular in businesses and in homes. In 1991 “World Wide Web” (WWW) debuts and technology boomed after that; all of this sped the flow of information. A few years later Snoop Dogg made an appearance on Saturday Night Live in 1994. He wore an oversized Tommy Hilfiger rugby shirt. (Frankel). Later in 1996 Sharon Stone came to the Oscars. She was wearing a black Gap turtleneck with a Valentino skirt. Bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam influenced this style of fashion the most. The clothing style included crumpled, ripped and torn clothes, men would wear T-shirts with flannels around their waists with baggy pants and popular Doc Martens. Many girls wore tattoos chokers and chunky boots. The fashion trends also included hip-hop, which had some similarities to grunge. Many rappers wore baggy pants and wore them low so you could see their boxers, Tommy Hilfiger, Polo Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, and Nautica. (Frankel). Another popular style was getting tattoos and piercings and showing them off. Tattoos started becoming more socially acceptable because of 1990s rock stars and actors. High profile celebrities started wearing clothes to show off their tattoos which created a market for upscale tattoo studios.
