There have been a specific situation at my current job in which the decision-making process is based on ethical principles. At Nimitz Ninth Grade School, we pride ourselves in excellence. This school is centrally located between families who come from a wealthy back-ground, and families who come from nothing. As a member of the leadership team, the school principal has requested a 3% increase in the school budget for the following year. This increase is to fund new creativities that were suggested by the school improvement team, to increase our STARR scores. The issue with this reduction is that for the past 8 years, the school has been given an assortment of funds to cover all of their expenses. Being in a title 1 district, this school has never faced a problem such as this before. When this increase was proposed to the local …show more content…

Ethics is the broad theme of ISLLC Standard 5. The activities related to this standard provided me with a means to reflect on my personal code of ethics, explore ethics from the perspective of a district official, and to hear others’ perspectives of ethics in the school organization. The first activity allowed me to interview Richard Stiverson, a school board member, regarding his code of ethics. The interview was insightful and did not veer far from what I consider to be ethical. With regard to this activity, I was able to grasp the notion that ethical behavior is paramount to building and maintaining trust in an organization.…

Ethical challenges can occur during collaboration between a parent and a special education teacher regarding services provided to a student with a disability. One challenging scenario would be when a parent does not want a child to receive any special education services though the child has qualified. We do not understand the parents mental model with a different aspect of the social world then ourselves. To insure the child is receiving the proper services it is important for teachers to attempt to establish a paradigm shift (Amatea, 2013). To help a paradigm shift, special education teachers must discuss the reason why the parent does not want their child in special education.…

Public school funding has been an ongoing issue for years. No matter how wealthy the district is, there can be an issue for all when the funds are not distributed fairly. Without enough funds from the government, schools cannot provide adequate supplies for the classroom, cannot provide sufficient transportation cost and cannot pay salaries to those involved in the school district such as teachers and administration. Public school funding also helps provide reduced and free meals to students who qualify. What a lot of people don’t know is where all of this money is coming from and who is paying for it.…

Since ethics are influenced by our upbringing and role models, they vary from person to person. Dilemmas were extensively discussed in the weekly team meetings in SPE 567. This was my first opportunity in the course to observe how individual perceptions influenced the interpretation of each ethical scenario, and subsequently, the solution to addressing the issue. It should also be noted that the “identified” issue also differed among team members.…

While analyzing the required text for this week there were five ethical categories that reoccurred through each document: responsibilities to parents, collaboration, community, personal development, and students. In addition, there are other categories, but these are the most significant to me. Special education teachers have a responsibility to parents: • Use culturally appropriate communication with parents and families that is respectful and accurately understood (CEC, 2010). • Actively seek and use the knowledge of parents and individuals with exceptionalities when planning, conduction, and evaluating special education services and empower them as partners in the education process (CEC, 2010). • Respect the private nature of the special…
