Treehouse Board Of Directors: Case Study

Dear Treehouse Board of Directors and to whomever else it might concern. Before I begin, I would like to give the assembled group of individuals a great round of applause. I thank you for the dedication and effort each of you has personally put into this theater to insure it’s survival for a great number of years. As a former student performing member of Treehouse Theaters JTF performing team, I wish to bring to the attention of the board an issue that I have personally been concerned about every year within the team: the lack of student commitment concerning rehearsal attendance. I would like to propose that a policy be implemented that if a student auditions for the JTF performing team with more than eight hours conflicting with the already …show more content…
It is difficult, perhaps impossible, to perform with actors that you do not trust. Speaking as a former team performer, I know that it is hard to learn a sequence or a dance number when an actor who you are supposed to be working with is absent. Attempting to imagine them there is arduous and only beneficial for a very limited amount of time. Therefore, only physical attendance is entirely advantageous for trusting your teammates and learning to work cohesively. Additionally, when a student performer is absent from rehearsal they, usually unintentionally, set a tone of disrespect for their fellow teammates and their directors. When students are permitted, or tolerated, to miss rehearsals regularly the tone of disrespect grows. Within the team for JTF 2016, twelve different students missed a total rehearsal time of twenty-eight hours when all compiled together. However, a few students missed more time proportionally than those other twelve students; in fact, a few students only missed one hour out of the entire rehearsal process, whereas two students missed six hours each and one student missed an estimated twelve hours of rehearsal. This type of lack of commitment is what I wish to remedy in coming years for Treehouse Theaters JTF performing

As a musician, nothing terrifies you more than a botched performance. We spend weeks or months or sometimes even years working on a piece, only to get on stage and make a complete fool of ourselves. It is not that we lack the talent or passion for doing the music justice, but that simple, unmanageable factors make a huge impact when we have been stuck in the habit of using our typical environment to prepare for a performance. The smallest things can make the biggest difference- whether it be a different room, a different audience, or maybe even a different instrument altogether (which is very common as a percussionist, seeing as most of our instruments are much too large to transport everywhere we go). Nevertheless, an awful performance is…

The music concert 9066 Music Behind Barbed Wire was the ending cumulation of the events done throughout the semester to honor the 75th anniversary of Manzanar. Inside the university theatre the crowd was coming in, soon the theater was packed with a variety of people from the community and students. The evening event started fifteen minutes late, and then we were welcomed by the Dean of the college of arts and humanities Mitch Avila. He discussed how throughout the semester they had several guest speakers and field trips to Manzanar and stressed how it was important to remember how many Japanese American were incarnation. After that the program began with Coco Mori a student from the Calle Mayor Middle School, she performed The Star Bangled Banner and it was amazing to find that the audience was singing along with her.…

This past Saturday I had the great honor of attending the South East Iowa Honor Band (SEIBA) auditions, a prestigious competition where music students from all of southeast Iowa have the opportunity to undergo an intense audition process including, but not limited to, arthritis from excessive preparation, mental breakdowns, glares from judges that could kill you with one look, and sugar overdoses from their wide variety of healthy options available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the concession stands. Alright, it’s not actually that intense, but you get the picture. This day is full of excitement and nerves and disappointment as one five minute audition stands between months of hard-work and your personal goals. Sadly enough, as important…

In my two years studying at Jurong Junior College, I have decided to join the Guitar Ensemble to expand my knowledge of music; to add on to my prior experiences of learning the electronic organ during the younger years of my life. I have certainly picked up on the basic skills of playing the guitar and even received the chance of being the leader of one of the sections, however, more importantly, I have stepped down from this CCA bringing back extremely useful skills such as team work, diligence as well as perseverance, which will certainly help me to improve my attitude towards life. This is even more apparent as we participated in the Singapore Youth's Festival Arts Exhibition in 2015, as we stayed back for long hours in school to perfect the techniques and performance within each section, as well as among all the sections in the ensemble, whilst making sure to keep a balance with my studies as well. Though there were some conflicts within the team during this tense period, the problems are quickly ironed out as we worked together and managed to clinch a Certificate of Achievement.…

I never expected to be interested in the backstage atmosphere of a production, however, I found myself helping my school’s drama department put on our annual Harvest King. I would not say I was the stage manager, but I would say that I was very involved in making sure the show went on smoothly. I was to make sure each contestant was ready to go on stage at their proper time, whether it was for on-stage question, evening wear, or talent. Keeping each boy on task was no small feat due to the fact that they were all high school age. I had never expected to find myself backstage at any kind of production, especially not my school’s boys pageant.…

When the word “home” is defined in a dictionary you are given definitions like “the place in which one’s domestic affections are centered” or “any place of residence or refuge” but to me home means so much more. To me, home is theatre. Those who know me well will attest that the change in me throughout this experience is drastic. Theatre transports me to places I couldn’t dream of otherwise and two years ago, I was taken to a place that would change my life forever and theatre transformed to the place I call home. Thoughts and ideas flooded my mind as I stepped into the off-green colored cafeteria.…

In October 15, 2015 on a chilly Thursday night, students, parents, and teachers attended the Mary Poppins broadway musical. Upon entering the theater, students handed out colorfully designed programs. Attendees who came earlier nearly filled up all the seats, but luckily there were a few seats left. Either the staff at Xavier were ridiculously talented at promoting the musical or perhaps the attendees simply knew that they were in for a treat. Lights darkened, the announcer greets the audience, giving typical directions to turn off cell phones as to not disturb the cast members and audience, announced that there would be a fifteen minute intermission after the first act, and to enjoy the musical.…

Board & CEO dynamics The starting point for exploring the dynamics between the board and the CEO is the determination of what kind of relationship it should be. The BoardSource states that "board chairs and CEOs who acknowledge that they are partners and make a commitment to a relationship of mutual trust can keep the organization moving ahead" (BoardSource, p. 251). In determining these dynamics, a board should ask itself what it wants from its chief executive. For example, should it be a partnership or a boss-subordinate relationship? Should the board "control" the CEO, or should it allow the CEO to control him or herself, but within board-determined "control" boundaries?…
