This second group of all girls performed two pieces, Alouette and Song of America. The first piece, Alouette, was one I recognized and one that was sang entirely in French. At first, I found it impressive that the choir was singing in French. But when thinking about it, it’s not that hard to sing a foreign language than it is to speak in it. When speaking in any language, you have think about what you’re actually saying before you say it. However, when you sing in another language, you just learn and memorize the words without really having to know what you’re saying. Moving onto the piece itself, Alouette was very repetitive in terms of the lyrics. Be as that may, I still remained interested because of listening to the three-part harmony. The choir was split into thirds that sang in three different pitches, blending together to create one beautiful sound. The next song was very American, hence the title of the piece. Sung in rounds, Song of America contained meaningful lyrics of freedom and unity. Towards the middle of the song and much to my surprise, half of the choir began singing the lyrics to America the Beautiful, creating a very patriotic mash-up. This made this piece sound more interesting for me. The women of Women’s Concert Choir ended on good note by ending their second piece with the big, final note of Song of
