Treble Choir

On the evening of March fourteenth, the talented singers of Carl Sandburg High School put on an excellent performance for friends and family to enjoy. Although it was rather short concert, I still had the pleasure of hearing eight diverse groups sing at this year’s Winter Choir Concert. At 7 o’clock on the dot, the women of Treble Choir came out on stage. As the chatter in the audience hushed, the president of the group announced who they were and briefly talked about the two pieces they were singing that night. Treble Choir then proceeded with singing Ragtime Town, the first song I heard that night. While listening to this song, I pictured a saloon in the Wild West due to the vibrant, staccato piano accompaniment. In terms of the singers, …show more content…
This second group of all girls performed two pieces, Alouette and Song of America. The first piece, Alouette, was one I recognized and one that was sang entirely in French. At first, I found it impressive that the choir was singing in French. But when thinking about it, it’s not that hard to sing a foreign language than it is to speak in it. When speaking in any language, you have think about what you’re actually saying before you say it. However, when you sing in another language, you just learn and memorize the words without really having to know what you’re saying. Moving onto the piece itself, Alouette was very repetitive in terms of the lyrics. Be as that may, I still remained interested because of listening to the three-part harmony. The choir was split into thirds that sang in three different pitches, blending together to create one beautiful sound. The next song was very American, hence the title of the piece. Sung in rounds, Song of America contained meaningful lyrics of freedom and unity. Towards the middle of the song and much to my surprise, half of the choir began singing the lyrics to America the Beautiful, creating a very patriotic mash-up. This made this piece sound more interesting for me. The women of Women’s Concert Choir ended on good note by ending their second piece with the big, final note of Song of

In this essay, Gould describes the performance of "Madam Jeanette" conducted by Wilhousky. Returning to his old high school chorus after thirty years, Len and Gould reminisce in their diverse and musically-talented childhood. Comparing his chorus to the one in that time, Gould recognizes that at a young age, students cannot put the right amount of emotion into the music. Along with this, the number of male participants has dropped drastically, and try-outs may no longer be necessary as the ratio of girls to boys is outrageously uneven. With these setbacks, Gould wonders if the students have put the excellence of Wilhousky aside.…

This song is sung by Idina Menzel, she is a mezzo-soprano, she can sing two octave and three notes. She uses a large scale of them within this song. She sometimes uses leaps between these notes, There are many instruments that can be used to conduct this piece, but the keyboard is one that is used in most versions. Tone was the same roughly the same, however I thought there were times where sopranos could have dropped their jaws to allow for more of an A-W sound compared to the A-H sound they were providing. Personally, I think the diction needs a fair amount of work. If it wasn’t for the fact that I know this song forward and backward, I don’t think I’d understand the words these women were singing because it sounded all jumbled together. That being said because I’ve sung this song twice in my highschool career, I think the rhythm is quite off. What would best benefit this choir would be to set up a metronome and force them to sing “Still I Rise” while keeping up with the metronome because the tempo they sang was too slow and made the song sound gospelie, which wasn’t the composer's purpose.…

I think that this song was very different from the songs we listened to in class, which was kind of neat. There wasn’t a clear rhythm of sorts to this song. I felt like a lot of different things were going on and each instrument had their own parts going on. However, it all flowed together really well. The saxophone(s) and piano played most of the choruses, and each had their own little part of a solo.…

I remembered that the lyrics tried to convey to us the logic of war being inevitable and that what was once on the grounds of the battlefield will be replaced my new things. In a way I was able to interpret that as a new beginning but also a true sad part of our life. The fact that she used an inspiring tone to talk to us, she drew us in with the climax tension of the song. Even when it seemed like the song was dying out, she and the other performers managed to keep us in with the groove of the music till the song had ended…

Choir has been a very opening experience for me. When I was little I was extremely shy and would be scared to really to period because I felt like they were always judging every single word that came out of my mouth. I didn't like to participate in any school activities because I was such an introvert, but throughout elementary and middle school the only thing I participated in and actually enjoyed was choir. The very few friends that I had were in choir because that is where I spent most of my time. When I got to high school I didn't have any classes with my friends.…

Behind me sits the entire crowd of the sold out Virginia Women’s Chorus Candlelight Concert. When I arrived in Charlottesville months earlier, I could have never expected to be here. I have just finished performing a piece with the chorus minutes earlier, when a member of the chorus steps forward and addresses the audience to explain and introduce the next piece.…

In the first listen, the expression of the singer, which seems acoustic in nature despite the background play bring out the message in the song. Based as a description of what used to mare the African American community, the song expresses the anguish especially in the tone of the song. The somber nature expressed in the lyrics of the song are in conjunction with the soft but squeaky musical instruments. The musical instruments in the first few seconds of the song are also catchy, with it taking twist from the opening tango melodies to the jazzy and blues musical arrangements.…
