Blackburn 1 MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) has become one of the fastest growing bacteria of the decade. This infection can only be treated by very powerful antibiotics, but it is resistant to some antibiotics. One out of 20 people will get this infection, most will get it from the hospital, but some can get it even before they reach the hospital grounds.
There are four different types of the MRSA infection. The first one is the skin infection or also known as Necrotizing Fasciitis, commonly called the flesh eating infection. This type is a serious bacterial skin infection that spreads fast and kills the body’s soft tissues. People who have Endocarditis will have inflammation of the inner walls of the heart mainly in the heart valves. This can also infect artificial heart valves, pacemakers, or implantable defibrillators. Endocarditis infection is most commonly found in people with preexisting heart diseases. To get this infection the bacteria will enter the bloodstream and attach to damaged places of the inner parts of the heart, but not all the bacteria entering the bloodstream will cause this infection. If this is untreated or not treated in time the patient will most likely die. Endocarditis will damaged the heart valves to where the heart will start leaking and will not be able to push the blood throughout the body. There is a few ways to prevent it; to do it on your own you should have good oral hygiene. I did have an elevated white blood count. The place where the infection was located was very sensitive to the touch. Symptoms of Endocarditis, there are almost always fever. People with this infection/disease will lose their appetite, could have unexplained weight loss, and new rashes that can be both painful and painless. More symptoms could be headache, backache, confusion, joint pain, shortness of breath, or sudden weakness in the face or limbs suggestive of a stroke. When the patient goes in for an examination they could possibly hear a new heart murmur. Also, new skin, fingernail, or eye changes could be noticed. When certain symptoms combine together it will give the doctor a better idea on how to treat the Endocarditis. Fever is one of the symptoms of Sepsis. Change of behavior is another symptom of this infection. It is very hard to diagnose in young children, because the typical symptoms may not be present or may be hard to determine if it is a part of the infection. People with medical issues have a high risk of getting Sepsis. Patients that are hospitalized are at risk of obtaining this disease, due to intravenous lines, catheters, surgical wounds, and bedsores.
