When people think of treasure as being gold or money, but it can just be as simple as a picture of you and your friends, or it could be your family. Those things can be treasure. In Treasure of Lemon Brown by Walter Dean Myers, Greg figures out what's important to him and in The Pearl by John Steinbeck Kino goes through experiences that changes his life forever. Kino has a wife named Juana and a baby son named Coyotito. Coyotito gets poisoned by a scorpion and Kino has to find a pearl so that he can pay the doctor to cure Coyotito. Kino finds the pearl , but once he looks past the pearl Coyotito's shoulder is better. Now Kino can use the pearl to get a better life. ”It was morning like other mornings and yet the perfect among mornings”. This shows that Kino is satisfied and is happy with his life. Even if his family isn't wealthy he is happy with just the way it is. “He looked past the pearl , and he saw that the swelling was going out of the babies soldier, the poison was receding from its body”. This shows how Kino’s life is going to change rapidly. Now that the poison is gone from Coyotito's shoulder Kino can use the pearl to better his life instead of using it to pay the doctor. “ The principal had ended the suspension early when she sent that letter saying Greg would probably fail math if he didn't spend more time studying.This shows that Greg has a new problem acurring . If Greg doesn't get his grades up, he would never be able to play basketball. A quote that changes greg's life is when Lemon Brown said,” every man has a treasure”. This shows that treasure can be more than just riches it could be something that is important to you. The reason why this changes Greg's life is because he learns that he is very lucky to have a house, a dad, and he can go to school. Not a lot of people have that.
