Treasure Island

The setting of treasure island is set in two different places in the mid 18th century. The book starts at the Admiral Benbow, a small inn by the sea at Black Hill Cove in Bristol, England and treasure island, which is an island off the coast of Spanish America. I think that the significance of The Admiral Benbow Inn represents family, home, and Jim’s starting place. The Admiral Benbow Inn also represents Jim leaving his childhood behind and moving on, starting to grow up.
Some major characters in treasure island are Jim Hawkins, Long John Silver, and Dr Livesey.Jim hawkins is the narrator of the book, the main character of the novel, and around 12-13 years old. He is a good son of an owner of an inn near Bristol, England.

Drink and the devil had done for the rest Yo-ho-ho, and a bottle of rum!” This quote was repeated a lot throughout this whole novel. This is called the Pirate’s ditty. This little jig sums up drinking, death, and evil which relates to pirates. The “bottle of rum” signifies the drunkenness Of John’s group. The “dead man’s chest” refers to the hidden treasure. Another quote I enjoyed was “I have only one thing to say to you sir, … if you keep on drinking rum, the world will soon be quit of a very dirty scoundrel!” This quote is also used a lot within the novel. This is what Dr. Livesey tells Billy Bones in chapter I. This signifies the dispute between the educated world and the unruly criminal world. One more passage that I liked in the book was “Well squire, … I don’t put much faith in your discoveries, as a general thing; but I will say this, John Silver suits me.” (chapter VIII, page 76). This is what Dr. Livesey says to Squire Trelawney at the end of chapter VIII, when the people first meet the crew that will go with them to treasure island. This quote signifies the matter of perception of another person’s personality. Another reading from the novel I liked is “Pieces of eight! Pieces of eight! Pieces of eight!” (chapter X, page 98). This quote is what Long John Silver’s parrot cries out, his name is Cap’n Flint. The last quote I liked was “But one man of

This story took place in an island. If the story took place anywhere but an island, it wouldn’t be as interesting. For example, if the story took place in the city it would be very unrealistic. If the story took place in a desert, there would be nowhere to run or hide. These two examples show that the setting was crucial to the story.…
