Jim is the hero in Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. The Departure of Jim’s journey consists of the Call to Adventure and the Beginning of the Adventure. The Call to Adventure is when Billy Bones enters into the Admiral Benbow Inn. After he enters, Jim’s life completely changes, with strangers, usually pirates, coming to the inn. An extreme wide shot and an objective point of view would be used in order to show all of the characters in the inn, introducing all of them. In order to show how important Billy Bones is, a low angle and low key lighting would be used to make him seem ominous. The Beginning of the Adventure occurs after Billy Bones, and Jim finds a treasure map on him. He and his friends decide to go searching for the treasure.

Another part of the Road of Trials is after the ship lands on the island and they start fighting, the pirates against the honest men, and Jim and his friends hide in a stockade. An objective point of view and wide shot would be used to show all the people running and fighting. To make them all appear small and weak, a high angle would be used, and because they are fighting a battle, low key lighting would be used to make the mood dark. The next event in the Road of Trials occurs as Jim decides to take back the Hispaniola and kills Israel Hands. Jim’s perspective would be used, looking down at Israel Hands. In order to illustrate the man going overboard, a wide shot would be employed. In addition, high key lighting would be used to show the happiness of another pirate gone. Immediately after Israel Hands is killed, Jim is captured by the pirates. This is another component of the Road of Trials. An objective point of view would be utilized, along with a wide shot, to show Jim running into the pirates arms.
