Remember as a little kid when you dreamed of setting sail to quest for a secret treasure on a distant island with pirates? That is exactly what Jim Hawkins, a brave boy who experienced exciting adventures, did. He was thrown onto the road of self-discovery by the alcoholic and sea-chanty-singing Billy Bones to set sail to Treasure Island. Hawkins’ actions throughout the book tell readers a few things about him: He joins Doctor Livesey and others to quest for the treasure of Captain Flint, he expresses unique traits that helped his friends along the quest, and he is possessed by various forms of motivation to uncover the secret treasure. Set in the days of sails and ships, buried treasure and pirates, Treasure Island is an epic tale of a young boy by the name of Jim Hawkins, and his search for the buried treasure of the notorious Captain Flint. …show more content…
He isn’t a famous pirate-fighter- just an ordinary boy. Jim is the son of an innkeeper in England; although when his father dies, Jim becomes free to carve out his own way into the world. His mother becomes very intent on getting the money Billy Bones owes for his stay- thus, she insists going through his sea chest without permission. With that, Jim joins Doctor Livesey, the family doctor, and Squire Trelawney to prepare for their voyage to Treasure Island on the Hispaniola. Jim Hawkins is also portrayed as the young hero of Treasure Island- he stumbles into the exhilarating adventure when Billy Bones happens to blunder into the inn before Long John Silver perseus to find him. He discovers the hidden map in the chest pocket of deceased Billy Bones that Captain Flint
