A little while later on in the story, the mutiny is already happening, and the only trustworthy people are in the stockade. Long John Silver comes with a white flag of truce and tries to allign with all of the trustworthy people. The captain, who is trustworthy, figures out that Silver wants the treasure map so he and his mutineers can have all of the treasure to themselves. Long John Silver says, “We want the treasure, and we’ll have it- That’s our point!” Real pirates would attack right then and there, not try and take it with a flag of truce.(Pirate History, Krzysztof Wilczynski) This shows that Treasure Island has romanticized pirates in a mutiny.
Finally, Treasure Island has romanticized boats sailing across the ocean. Treasure Island took place around the Golden Age of Piracy. According to Krzysztof Wilczynski,”Starting in XVI century piracy was gaining popularity.” There should have been ships in a lot of different places looking to rob other ships. What are the odds that during the Hispaniola’s trip to Treasure Island, the crew and ship never encountered any other pirate ship. This shows that there would have had to been more ships at sea. Treasure Island romanticized the idea of traveling across the ocean on a pirate ship.
In conclusion, Treasure Island has romanticized many ideas to make pirating safer and not the same. Three ideas that stories have romanticized are marooned pirates, mutinies, and pirate ships in and around the
