Since they have come to be, pirates have infatuated all types of people. Their hateful, deceitful, and unloyal ways are something of great interest for many people. In many writing pieces there is usually mixture of themes like love, revenge, and hate. Robert Louis Stevenson did a fantastic job on how to create thematic statements in his novel Treasure Island. The thematic monologue “Treasure Island” by Robert Louis Stevenson about a young boy named Jim Hawkins who owned also ran a motel called the Inn with his mom. One day a pirate walks into the Inn asking for some other pirate and after that day one thing let to another. At this point Jim’s voyage started, to find treasure on a island with a hole crew of men that were trusted and some being …show more content…
Throughout Treasure Island, revenge adds displeasure to the novel and conflict as some of the characters develop bad mind set and jealousy of others. Long John Silver is one of the biggest suspects. He never shows his emotions to the other crewmen but inside him he has a plan to do the opposite the way he acts. "Right you are," said Silver; "rough and ready. But mark you here, I'm an easy man--I'm quite the gentleman, says you; but this time it's serious. Dooty is dooty, mates. I give my vote--death.”(page 71). Long John Silver is basically stating that he has a plan to take over Captain Smollett's crew and murder them he’s is going to take over the hole crew ship and find the treasure at the island. “I give my vote—death” really is a way of saying he’s not going to show no mercy to anyone that comes in his way. This relates how in society today no one can be trusted other than yourself and family. Secondly, the persona is effective when the revenge is in full force by one of the main villain’s in the novel. The persona is shown when Long John Silver tries to get away with something and thinks he’s been successful but fails in silence. “I was surprised at the coolness with which John avowed his knowledge of the island, …show more content…
Throughout Treasure Island, love adds purpose to the aspect of the readers flow. Given that as a reader the emotions should create the true live feeling on what the author is trying to create and prove. When Jim is at the Inn a sailor appears to be coming to the Inn and Jim is interested why a sailor would come. “Well, mother was upstairs with father and I was laying the breakfast-table against the captain's return when the parlour door opened and a man stepped in on whom I had never set my eyes before” (17). Jim was referring to the Captain Bill. This is where the love is truly proven when Jim meets the Captain Bill and they both get off to a good start. Bill then explains why he has come to the Inn and needs Jim’s help. Jim then happily agrees to Bill and become friends. When Bill later on in the story gets to drunk because he is addicted to rum falls fairly onto the ground. He then passes away in silence from a stroke. Jim’s is very heartbroken that Bill has passed away and always will be remembered. This relates in today's community when someone not that close has a fatal accident or has passed away the true emotions on love occurs in sadness. Some would state that love can also be defined as creating a peaceful area in your mind and really thinking

The two major differences in the scenes when arriving to treasure island greatly impact the portrayal of Long John Silver. In this scene in the novel he is seen as a ruthless evil man, due to the fact of him killing an innocent man. In the movie however, John Silver is portrayed as a man that wants to be redeemed and no visible evil traits are seen, just Silver’s immoral actions. This proves that although the movie, Treasure Island, is based off of Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel, slight changes can greatly impact the portrayal of a character. In this case, based on this scene, John Silvers character has changed from the novels view as a murderer, to the movies portrayal as a man struggling with his immorality.…

In Barbara Fredrickson’s, “Selections from Love 2.0: How Our Supreme Emotion Affects Everything We Feel, Think, Do and Become,” she talks about how we see love in the wrong way and that we should start looking at love the way the body sees it. Love, according to Webster, is “a strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties.”. For some, this definition of love expresses the way people develop a mutual understanding of one another to attain a level many are unable to reach. Others may believe love can happen by the chance of a glimpse and bind them together by that unknown force without any preceding knowledge of the person. In The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer, the “Knight's Tale” shows that love is greater than any other power. Chaucer composed the tale to convey the idea that love brings about unforeseen outcomes.…

Love comes in many forms and is shown differently by almost everyone, thus making it nearly impossible to pinpoint whether or not a couple’s love is true. In the past, poets used the theme of love and made personal views on affection through their work to argue their opinions on the topic of love. In the poem “A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning” John Donne argues that having a physically intimate relationship means that the love between two people is shallow, however I disagree and feel that a couple can be affectionate while also maintaining a strong, spiritual connection. It is healthy to have a physical connection in order to have a successful relationship. There are many reasons to support this idea.…
