Travon Dabney: A Short Story

Improved Essays
The cameras flashed, snapping pictures of the newest leader of our nation. Travon Dabney. Today is January 20th, 2045. I can’t bear to look at the T.V. anymore. I switched it off and collapsed onto the comfortable couch in the small living space in our dorm. I couldn’t believe that people had actually voted for Travon. He was a ruthless man with a cold heart. He could do anything he wanted and no one would stop him. Ever since he had stepped onto the campaign, nothing has been the same. He had gotten some of his followers to do terrible things for him and no one said a thing. He was a rich man who could get away with whatever he wanted. “Adira!” called one of my roommates, Jedda. “Where’s the chocolate syrup?” I sighed and got up. I walked …show more content…
He had to be stopped. He had taken advantage of his power, and this was revenge. The plan was to appear in the White House in disguise. We would all show up as maids taking jobs at the White House. My mom couldn’t be in on the plan. Travon knew her too well. Jedda, Olivia, Isabelle and I were going into action tomorrow morning at 10:30 on the dot. I was excited. The next morning, we put on our tacky maid outfits and headed over to the White House. When we got there, we were greeted by the Secret Service. They asked for our identity. We gave it to them. They told us to go inside where we found Travon waiting for us with a million questions. He asked us a bunch of strange questions and we had to make a bunch of stuff up. He let us have the job and told us to start with preparing lunch. It was almost 12:00 by that time. We went into the kitchen and started cooking his order. A Caesar Salad with chicken and garlic bread . The Secret Service men were monitoring us the whole time. I excused myself for a moment with the Secret Service behind me. They were kind of creepy, and I had to find a way to ditch them. Suddenly I turned around and threw a few good punches and they were out cold. Wow, Travon couldn't even choose good security guards. I found the medicine cabinet and got some sleeping draught to put into Travon’s salad. I heard footsteps and tried to shove the draught in the cabinet and close it but it was too late. “Well well well.” said that nasty voice behind me. I whirled around from the front of the medicine cabinet. “ If it isn’t Elvira junior. I knew you looked familiar. How could I not have known that you’re Elvira Jackson’s daughter. That grotesque and despicable women. The president of NOW’s daughter. I should’ve known.” I was burning with anger. “ DON’T YOU DARE SPEAK A WORD AGAINST MY MOTHER YOU TYRANT,” I bellowed. “And yes you should’ve known that I’m Elvira’s

The trio is affecting this nation is evangelical, paternalistic and sentimental nihilism; a toxic combination of institutionalized practices and behaviors that perpetuate systemic racism and imperialism. The threads of nihilism were woven into the fabric of America since the values of the nation were conceived in the Constitution. The architects of this paramount document set a precedence for faulty democratic tradition as they struggled to consolidate the assertion that “all men are created equal” while simultaneously deeming slaves to be worth three-fifths of a person. Much like the slaveholding land capitalists, America’s contemporary…
