Elvis Aaron Presley, “the king of Rock and Roll,” was born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi. He was the most successful American rock and roll singer, guitarist, and actor during the mid 1950s. He was born and raised in the South in poverty. His first musical experience was from the Pentecostal services of the First Assembly of God Church. Other influential styles that shaped his music included county, blues, rhythm and blues music, and the popular tunes at the time. In 1954, Presley was scouted by Sam Phillips, owner of Sun Records, and was put in a trio group with Scotty Moore and Bill Black at the age of 19. The trio recorded the first single with the songs That’s all right, mama by Arthur ‘Big Boy’ Crudup and Blue Moon of Kentucky by Bill Monroe in 1954. The trio created a mix style of country and rhythm and blues music. The unique sound of Moore’s guitar, Black’s slapped bass, and the forceful rhythm guitar of Presley along with the electronic echo effect made the single a huge success. On March 1956, Presley released the first official record for RCA, “Heartbreak Hotel,” which became a huge success that reached the top five on the pop, rhythm and blues, and country charts. On January 28, 1956, Presley made his national television debut on the Dorsey’s Brothers’ Stage Show. He also appeared on the Milton Berle, Steve Allen, and Ed Sullivan television shows. However, his appearance on the New Frontier Hotel in Las Vegas was not very successful. In addition, Presley’s first movie, Love Me Tender, regained its $1 million cost profits within three days. Following the success of “Hound Dog” and “Don’t Be Cruel,” which placed number one hit on all three charts, RCA released seven Presley singles at the same time along with a ballad theme song from his movie, Love Me
