Trauma Among Adolescents Essay

Every adolescent has a different background and different crisis that they encounter. However, depending on the crisis it may effect adolescents in a way that causes trauma. There are adolescents that grow up in a domestic violent home. The individual will reach a stage where they are in between a child and an adult. During this time emotions are building up but still kept internal. Most of the time adolescents are not aware that another problem could be affecting their current problem, it’s normally specified as a trigger. There are several adolescents that are a victim of sexual, emotional, and physical abuse. Dealing with these of abuse, many feel like they are alone and no one understands them. Adolescents lose sight of themselves and struggle with post-traumatic symptoms. Social workers work hard to make sure that adolescents do no stray to something more troublesome. They want to see adolescents thrive and recover well from their traumatic experience. Social workers are fearful for troubled female adolescents because, they susceptible to drink, sexual exploitation, drugs, and unwanted pregnancy (S., Gillian and B., Kate, 1999). The troubled adolescents are known by authority and they are most likely in the care of the authority. Since there is no stable save environment for the adolescents, they will struggle with transitioning to adulthood. Dealing with an environment that isn’t suitable for the adolescents along with constant negativity, will scar the adolescents. Without help the adolescents will carry that internal baggage into their adulthood, making them not be able to function well. The adolescents need a secure attachment to develop normally.
