As kickoff approached, University Ave was flooded with pedestrians in orange and blue apparel.
Football was in the air, at least for a night, but that was good enough to bring together 46,000 fans and over 40 recruits into The Swamp to watch the Gators.
Will Norris, a UF Student and a member of Phi Delta Theta, acknowledged he’s noticed a difference of the atmosphere on campus this year with the game being played on a Friday night, “Students are actually looking forward this year's game with Florida coming off their first SEC title since Tebow, plus, they don’t have to sit through a scorching noon game, and we get a first look at

In the article “At Ole Miss, the Tailgaters Never Lose” by William L. Hamilton, readers learn about the famous football-weekend parties at the Grove on the University of Mississippi. The article uses spatial organization because the writer focuses on the location and tailgating happening at one place. Hamilton also uses topical organization, moving from the past to present in different parts of the article. This helped the reader to understand more about the past of Ole Miss and how things became the way they are today. The author is a detached spectator in Ole Miss and did not participate in the story or tailgating.…

There is always drama and suspense leading up to National Signing Day which has become the most important day to college football teams all around the country but that wasn't the case this afternoon for the West Virginia Mountaineers. Today saw Coach Holgorsen and his staff sign every committed player that was expected to sign, sign with the Mountaineers. West Virginia failed to sign a quarterback in this class which concerns some fans but don't forget that WVU has Will Grier (JR), Chris Chugunov (SO), and Cody Saunders (FR). There is youth at the position but as we have seen before you can never have enough experience at the quarterback position. Two strengths that West Virginia walked away with in this class are defensive line and defensive backfield which should make defensive coordinator Tony Gibson a very happy man.…

In 1968, the Marching Tar Heels of the University of North Carolina (UNC) released a 7-inch 33 ½ rpm record consisting of eight school songs including “Here Comes Carolina,” “Carolina Fight Song,” and UNC’s alma mater “Hark the Sound.” Past UNC students wrote and composed over half of the fight songs featured on the album, and the student marching band performs the same songs today, nearly five decades later. In fact, the band and fans conclude each game with “Hark the Sound,” linking arms and singing the lyrics a UNC student wrote over 100 years ago in 1897. As the “Go Tar Heels!” exhibit exemplifies with this piece, a game is about more than the athletes.…

Beginning in 1893, The Iron Bowl has been referred to as the biggest sports rivalry nationwide. Experiencing this first hand, I have seen this turn from a rivalry to an all out war. There is true hatred in this rivalry.…

Why should college football players be paid? There are many universities that are well known for their football teams, such as Louisiana State University, Florida State University, and Alabama State University, which generate $100 million annually. Some schools wouldn 't be as popular as they are without those teams, which make millions of dollars for their schools. Football teams should be paid because players bring colleges a lot of money, they are often seriously injured, and they 're working as hard as actual football players in the National Football League.…

Growing up in the North East, we lived a couple hours from Shea Stadium in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens, New York. Being the playing ground for the New York Jets 1964 to 1983, now the New York Jets play at MetLife Stadium, in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Living so closed to the stadium and having family members like my Dad, Uncles, and Grandfather take the train or a boat over to watch Joe Namath play was an experience I wish I could have been a part of. Football has become so popular in America, that they have a day dedicated to watching your favorite team play their hardest vs one of the other thirty-one teams in the league.…
