Anna Kendrick’s goal in writing Scrappy Little Nobody, is to show that she’s not like every other celebrity, she’s different and fun and independent, and because of this, she is also just like everybody else. We’re all different, which is the one thing that makes us the same, and this is the kind of empowering message that she wanted to share with her audience. She wanted to show that she started out, as just a small, wacky, defiant teenage girl, and now she is still just a small, wacky, defiant girl, with a teensy bit more fame and maturity. In the novel she discusses her experience going through this journey, in a series of essays, from humble beginnings to stardom. From scrappy little nobody, to scrappy little somebody.
One way she illustrated her message, was describing how she felt alienated growing up. One example of this is one of her quotes from her years in grade school, “It’s like, it’s like I have a different heart. The other girls have one kind of heart, and I have a different kind.
