Trappist-1 Solar System

Improved Essays
The solar system of Trappist-1 is very much different from the one that we live in. For starters, the size of this host star, Trappist-1, is remarkably only one-tenth the size of the sun or just only twice the size of our planet Jupiter. Compared to our solar system, Trappist-1 only consists of three planets that orbits around it. However, the length of time these tiny planets take to orbit around Trappist-1 extremely short. Out of the three planets, the two closest to Trappist-1 takes “… just 1.5 and 2.4 Earth days, respectively, to complete a turn around it.” (Smith, “The Solar System and You)”. The third planet’s orbital period is less certain, ranging from 4 days to over 10 weeks according to suggestions from current

The discussion for this assessment is to explain, “Why was Pluto demoted to a dwarf planet?” While searching for another planet to explain irregularities in Neptune’s orbit, Pluto was discovered in 1930 by astronomers. At that time, the astronomers gave Pluto very little consideration due to its size, about the size of earth, and way too small to have any affect in altering Neptune’s orbit. As time passed, and technology improved, the size of Pluto was reexamined through improved satellite images, and found to be less than half of Earth’s diameter. Most recently, calculations established on images obtained by the Hubble Space Telescope, show that Pluto’s about one- fifth the diameter of earth and half that of Mercury (considered the runt of…

WASP-12b, a planet that is a staggering 871 light years from earth, is currently being eaten by a star. This hot jupiter has come so close to its sun that it has begun to deteriorate and even become egg-shaped because of the extreme gravity. It is also one of the hottest planets currently known to man at 2,525 degrees celsius. The orbit around its star takes only 26 hours in contrast to our 365 days. Besides the fact that it would take hundreds of generations for a modern day spacecraft to travel to WASP-12b and the fact that the amount of fuel, food, and water would be absurd as well as the oxygen supply and spare parts for a battered ship, you would also need to carry some of the following items.…

    19. Pluto is no longer considered a planet, and is considered a dwarf planet because it has not “cleared the neighborhood around its orbit. This saying pretty much means that Pluto has gained control of the gravity around it. So astronomers made a name for these planets known as the dwarf planets, to show that it is a planet that continues to orbit the sun, but it hasn’t cleared the neighborhood. 20.…

Pluto is probably the “planet” we know the least about, at least before the New Horizons space probe passed it a few months back. First discovered in 1930 by an astronomer named Clyde Tombaugh, Pluto was considered the ninth planet in our Solar system for over 70 years. Then in 2003, Eris, a small planet larger than Pluto,…

Because Kepler has a hard time adjusting to the gravity and having muscle problems, his Dad suggested that he should live with his relatives under the ocean in Conshelf Ten. As he was living under the ocean in Conshelf Ten, Kepler got in to an accident that led to his discovery of the Gillmen, who everyone insist that was just a part of his imagination.…

Mercury is a rocky planet and is the closest celestial body to the sun in our solar system. The planet is covered in many craters, boulders and pulverized dust. The planet lacks an atmosphere to help dictate temperature changes throughout a day, so the planet can experience many temperature swings multiple times per day. After a number of observations, it has been inferred that the planet has been geologically inactive for billions of years.…
