Trapped in the cave The beginning of the Theology IV course has been quite a unique experience for me. This has been because, I’m not sure what I’m going to expect going forward. For me, it’s hard to realize that just three years ago I started my journey initial studies of theology. My first impressions were glowing. I loved reading the bible freshman year with Mr. Sotelo, and enjoyed course to move up to honors my sophomore year. My sophomore year experience, however, was much different. The course was very different, confusing at times and didn’t really had a straight flow to it. Going into my junior year, I was worried about a repeat of my sophomore year experience, and went into the course with doubt. In the end, I really enjoyed my experience junior year, because it opened my mind to theological topics in the current world and allowed me to utilize my knowledge from class and apply it to my everyday life. Much of Theology for me, has been like Plato’s allegory in the cave. At many times I felt as though I was in the dark, confused and looking for an answer. At the same time, being in the light has been an uplifting experience and has left me longing to learn more information. Over the summer, I had a very similar connection to Plato’s allegory. I decided to work as a camp counselor as a summer job, without any idea of what I was getting myself into. I also decided to do it with my best friend from my old school in order get his opinion, and have someone to work along with when things get rough. This job was also the first …show more content…

In this article, Chris Widener tells the audience 10 things he wish he knew before he went out in the real world. These lessons aren’t the type that are taught by teachers, but they are lessons people come to realize just through living life and growing up. For a lot of people, these negative aspects are sheltered by their parents throughout childhood or they are something a child cannot experience just simply because they are too young. At the end, Widener lets the audience know that although there are certainly negative parts of just living life, but life can still be wonderful depending on whether or not you choose to look at life with a positive attitude. In the three essays written by Dillard, Appiah, and Pratt, they all use different examples but focus overall on the same “big picture”. They’re all part of a larger conversation, but they each stepped back and put in their own point of view on this subject. The main subject they all discuss is seeing. Dillard talks about how what people see is what they get. If they look for positivity and see positivity in everything, then they will get positivity out of it, and vice versa.…

Graduation hallmarks a time of genuine but, scholastic reflection of dynamic memories, while personal goals dictate achievements, spiritual growth, and a legacy left for younger generations to follow. Shorter University fosters the opportunity to receive a Christ-centered education while allowing students to remain focused on pursuing their relationship with God. As an exuberant high-school senior, I reside with my mother, younger sister, and my troublesome pet cat, Cally, and I enjoy working part-time at Marco’s Pizza. My arduous pursuits consist of playing the clarinet, writing poetry, learning the art of the French language, and volunteering throughout the community. Apart from earning a degree in accounting at Shorter University, my personal goals, that I will accomplish by graduation, range not only - from harnessing a deeper relationship with God as I continue to fulfill his call to share the gospel - but also, to developing new, yet immutable friendships, while cultivating my greatest contribution: my desire to publish my writing to glorify God.…

Dan Gilbert, TED talk speaker, in the TED talk “The Surprising Science of Happiness” claims, we tend to overrate any horrible situation. In addition, he states that we have the capacity to synthesize happiness, or in other words, accept the things we cannot change by finding a way to be happy. Dan Gilbert documents his point extensively, and it is important to add that overcoming adversity can create a lasting satisfaction. Emily Smith states that “People who have a purpose in life rate their satisfaction with life higher, even when they were feeling bad, than those who did not have a clearly defined purpose.” Although others may disagree with much that Emily Smith says, some endorse her final conclusion that overcoming adversity can create a lasting satisfaction.…
