This is a stage where the pros must outweigh the cons from how the behavior change with positively change their life. Although, if the cons outweigh the pros then no further progress can be made. This differs from the precaution adoption model by breaking it apart in the steps of deciding to act, or deciding not to act. If the decision to act is made then the model continues to the proceeding step and if not then change hals until the individual decides otherwise. Both theories follow a similar format for the next stage. The transtheoretical model gives ranges that the stages should occur between, which are meant to predict an estimate for how long an individual should be in a stage and not promote procrastination. This can be both advantageous or a potential limitation because of the unpredictability and variety between people in their own stages of their behavior change journey. If an individual exceeds the given range then it isn’t initially apparent if they have supposed to have moved on at that time. The precaution adoption model specifically illustrates the repercussion and downfall between stages if progression isn’t met which is the opposite of the transtheoretical model. Outlining how an individual can progress or degrade can be advantageous in the precaution adoption model so that their position can be followed with ease. It can hinder those who use the transtheoretical model in the way that if an individual fails to progress it isn’t clear if they drop one stage or back to pre-contemplation again. Both models indirectly use self efficacy the most during the preparation, action, and most of all during the maintenance
