Now come to the question of HOW? As we have discussed there are five transport methods: sea, air, rail, road transport and the orphan and continuously forgotten pipeline transport. In today’s transport world all five of these transport modes are used to transport cargo. The land transport can be by train or truck. In the event of air and sea transport land transport (rail or road transport) is required to take the cargo from the origin to the airport or harbour and the same happens on the arrival or desitnation side. It is not always possible to have a production facility near the ports due to limited coastlines of countries. Rail and road transport as we have learnt is more affordable than airtransport, but more expensive than seatransport.

Air freight is typically the fastest mode for long distance freight transport, but also the most expensive. We see air cargo being used in the instances of moving precious cargo, moving items such diamonds currency and other valuable items.
• Rail transport
Rail transport is cheaper then a transport and faster and then Ocean transport but is hampered by natural geography obstciles such as rivers and mountains. Rail transport is often used to bring bulk cargo to the ports or harbours to load onto the sea vessels bringing prodcuts such as coal iron ore and various types of grain.
• Road transport
Road sport is probably the most common transport mode used. Road freight is not as cheap as Railfreight but it has the advantage of easily adjusting the routes and getting to remote areas of the country. That said trucks and small cargo transporting vehicles are limited to the road infrastructure and can’t leave the road. Road transport has high maintenance costs for both vehicles and the infrastructure. Road freight can easily move between countries and across borders.
