Junior High is a very difficult because everybody is transitioning from Middle School to High School. Everybody is trying to learn who they really are and who they want to be. Teachers have so many kids in and out of their classroom, and they only have time to teach and they can not really get to learn about each individual. For most students, the transition from middle school to high school is the evolution from childhood to adulthood. In my case, my middle school graduation was a quick transition for another reason. The first few months of my freshman year had my parents rushing my grandfather in and out of the hospital because of his failing heart. By this point my grandfather had battled off colon cancer, 3 heart attacks, and 2 open heart surgeries. At age 74 he was not a candidate for a heart transplant but he was able to get a defibrillator.…

As I walked through the front doors of Allentown Central Catholic High School, I felt a sudden rush of panic. Everything I had once seen and had once been familiar with in middle school quickly vanished into thin air. I was terrified, not because I thought I was going to get lost, but because I knew that every little quiz I took, every little paper I wrote, and every exam I labored over would now count toward my ultimate goal of getting into a prestigious university. I wasn’t scared of new faces, but rather new beginnings and experiences.…

Katlynn, thank you for being the artistic light in my life and for all our sleepovers and memories we've made. The 1D concert (and our signs), OVA projects, hiking/bike rides, photography camp, being my mother/daughter in Peter Pan, personal favorite: snake in the boat and many more. Thanks for tolerating my gum chewing and whistling (sometimes). Whatever you do in life, I know you'll be great. Middle school is the toughest school to go through both mentally and socially. People often dread going through middle school, or as my parents call it junior high, because at that time, people are in the balance between childhood and adult hood. Now, I was starting middle school, this should be great. (sarcasm)…

Freshman year of high school is scary for anyone, the enormous transition from being a top dog at middle school, back to an underclassman; wondering if your high school teachers will be as unforgiving as your 8th grade teacher’s descriptions, or even just that uncertainty that comes along with any major change. As a homeschooler entering school system for the first time, and having completely skipped 8th grade, it was terrifying. I had no idea what to expect, I worried about being behind the other students, or having missed something in my homeschooling curriculum, even interacting with other kids was all unfamiliar. It definitely didn’t help that, at 13, I was the youngest person in the building. Just two days into the school year, I discovered that P-AP world…
