Transitioning From High School To Post-Secondary Education

The speech that I was listening to was written by a student called William Chiu, who graduated from Hasley Junior High School in 2012. The reason why I found this speech inspirational to me due to how reassuring it is for students (even outside of middle school) that are transitioning from one destination to another. In my case, I will be transitioning from high school to post-secondary education.
The first part of the speech that felt influential is when William told his audience not to be fearful of stepping out of your comfort zone. To elaborate, I found these words motivating for students since this is what I did during my second year of high school - instead of taking applied courses, I decided to challenge myself by switching to academic, hoping that I will gain broader knowledge about my favorite subjects, notably math and science. Moreover, the leap from applied to academic was massive, which resulted in me having to work twice as hard. I had to ask my teachers for extra help whenever I did not understand a concept. Even then, I still promised myself to continue on the academic stream and eventually take university-levelled courses in grade 11.

To clarify, I found that lesson relatable as I felt that way when I took grade 10 academic science (SNC2D1). In the beginning, I was struggling to understand the material that the teacher taught and my first set of marks weren’t as high as the ones I used to earn back in applied.
