Transition To College

The transition from high school to college is one of the most significant changes most of us will experience in our lives. After spending countless hours taking the SAT, filling our college applications, and attending college tours I felt as if a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders when received my letter of acceptance from the University of North Georgia/ Gainesville. While most of my friends chose larger universities and chose to live on campus, I knew I was not ready for that. While the thought of joining my best friend at Georgia Southern was very appealing to me, I knew it was not the right fit for me academically. I am not accustomed to change and become overwhelmed quite easily. As I walked down the corridor to my first class there were students buzzing about all around me. While no words were exchanged, they all seemed to offer a friendly nod or smile. At that moment, I was enveloped by a sense of calm. My fears were calmed even more when I met each of my professors. Venturing into unchartered territory I did not know what to expect. Upon entering the lab I was warmly greeted and directed to join several other students at the table who were there seeking the same support I was. While I was grateful for the help I received and I left with the answers I was seeking it took much longer than I had anticipated. Much to my dismay I could not even get an appointment when I went to the writing lab that same week hoping to get some feedback on a paper I was preparing for my psychology class. I think the addition of more tutors to the lab and defined study sessions for each are of study the success rate of the students would greatly
