When preparing for my transition to college, I knew that my life would be changing very drastically. All around me would be unfamiliar surroundings, new faces, and exciting opportunities. Going to college is such a great way to learn, grow, change, and have a ton of fun. However, with that fun comes huge responsibility. I knew that I wouldn’t have my parents here to cook, clean, and shop for me anymore. All of those things that were done for me were now my own responsibility. That being said, time management is more important to me now than it ever has been before. Since coming to UIS, I have been juggling volleyball, school, friends, family, and personal errands. It gets pretty hectic sometimes, but I try my best to stay on top of everything. So far, I have been very successful with completing all the necessary activities that I need to do. First of all, it put my plans into writing. Usually I just keep track of my tasks in my head. Using the mental method has worked for me thus far, but I know that by using it, I put myself at risk of forgetting something at some point. That has not happened yet since I have been here, but it very well could. Writing out my schedule — as I did for this assignment — solidifies my plans and gives me an easy itinerary to look back on if need be. Perhaps I will use this method in the future to help me continue to stay on track. In addition to putting my plans into writing, this assignment helped me by making me realize which of my tasks were of the upmost importance and which could be pushed back in my schedule if need be. For example, the tasks that were in the “important, urgent” quadrant were obviously a priority for me, and the activities in the “not important, not urgent” sector were things that I could forgo in order to complete the more demanding
