Transition to adulthood
At the age of 14, my life totally changed when I moved to United States with my family. Seeing my distant family in United States, I always desired to be with them and was very happy to get U.S visa. When I left India, I did not anticipate how immensely my character would change being in such a diverse country. Several days later, I got enrolled in high school after taking my placement tests. I faced great difficulty in my classes as the course material was totally new to me and problem solving techniques were different then what I was familiar with. Since childhood, I always had my parents and my friends around me to guide me through school work and extracurriculars. However, as I was in different environment where I did not know anyone to ask direct help for, I was compelled to figure out a way to succeed in my classes by my own. It was very nerve wracking at first as I still had habits as a child to be greatly dependent on others to accomplish my tasks. Although I was very nervous about finding study plan and help for myself, I reached out to my teachers and peers. With the assistance from my teachers, I learned tricks and techniques to ace the class and gain understanding of subject matter. After day and night of hard work, I finally started grasping concepts in a better way and managed to get A’s and B’s on my tests.
