While reading this chapter, it reminded me of the transition from a little kid to a pre-teen. My parents expected me to get good grades, clean my room, do my own laundry, etc. I expected my parents to drive me to soccer practice, pay for school, bills, etc. The developing and developed countries began to depend on each other for trade and exporting goods. The newly independent states became more industrialized by buying first world technology which is, in a way, something that I have recently done. Only a couple months of being 18 and considered an ‘adult’ and independent,

Becoming an adult is a momentous occasion in any young person’s life, but often it is marked by pain and hardships that push us as individuals to earn our autonomy and personal voice. There was an event in my life which pushed me to stand up to my parents and ultimately become an individual in their eyes. Life as a homeschooler was somewhat isolated until the end of my eighth-grade year. It was a damaging environment because of the constant interaction with my mother who was extremely critical and often lost her temper. The feeling that I could never please her overwhelmed me and even when I went to public school her manipulation of myself and others climaxed.…

When Jeanette was only three years old, Rose Mary applauded her for cooking hot dogs. Jeanette and her siblings had to find food on their own when their mom and dad were out of town. When there was not food during the school year, Jeanette had to pick up untouched food from the trash cans just to eat. These types of examples show what Jeanette and her other siblings had to go through at a young age on their own just to survive. Taking the example of Jeanette cooking at a young age showed the lack of commitment from the mother but at the same time she wanted to her children to learn the value of being independent.…

How much did you depend on your parents growing up? The guidance and assistance-or lack thereof-provided by parents for their child can affect the child’s morals, values, and what they do with their life. In The Glass Castle, Jeannette Walls and her siblings grew up surrounded by alcoholism, poverty, and abuse-physical, sexual, and emotional-while their parents were unhelpful when it came to providing for the needs of their children. The way a child thinks and acts depends greatly on how well the parents provide for their child’s physical and mental needs.…

The school I chose to visit is Child Development Services (CDS) Head Start I met with Sheryl Grasmick who is the center manager. She shared many of the safety procedures with me the first thing that is noticed when entering in to the school there is a key pad in the front entrance that a code has to be entered for the door to unlock the floor is tile and there are runner mats for when the weather is bad so students and parents don't have to walk on wet tile. Sheryl said they have fire evacuation, severe weather/tornado procedure and lock down procedures in place that all employees have been trained on as well as they do drills on a monthly basis to keep the students aware of the proper procedure. For the fire evaluation students are required to line up walk outside along the playground fence and line up along the back of the fence and stay there as their teacher calls attendance to make sure all students are accounted for once they are the teacher holds up a green card showing all are safe and accounted for, there is also a white card with a red cross showing paramedics are needed or a red card, meaning not all are…

As a child grows within their cultural upbringing, they develop as their own unique individual because of many personal experiences. These experiences include many different factors that help a child develop as early as their infant and toddler years. During the infant and toddler stage, it is important to realize that these years are crucial because of the brain developing. Along with brain development comes the physical, cognitive, and socio-emotional development that sums up a child’s development. Many professionals study child development because in this field they work to help describe and understand the changes that rapidly take place as children grow through childhood (Cook, 2013).…

The Child Narrator After reading the article Child Narrators, I found it to be quite enlightening as both a reader and a writer. Several of the concepts in the article were very interesting. One passage that evoked a high interest was about the inconvenient truths uncensored. According to the passage “A child narrator can, among other things, create a degree of distance between the adult author and his or her message that serves to lessen hostility to that message… Readers tend to be more accepting of a child rather than an adult who gives voice to certain uncomfortable truths.”…
