Reflection On My Observation Of Children

Transition
For my transition project I have chosen to do arrival time in the toddler room because I find observing the children 's when they arrive is the most difficult time in the day. Here are some of my observations: November 10.2016 children crying upon arrival, they don’t want to come inside the classroom Children up in parent’s arms, when parents go to put them down they won 't put their feet down. Parents trying to get them to go in by telling them to go get trucks, or their favorite toy. Children refuses still to come in. teacher gave a nice warm welcoming and was also trying to encourage children to come in. teacher finally had to take children from parents and children still screaming and crying.

And enjoy the environment. I think that this behavior can be happening because first of all arrival time is the beginning of the children day. And is one of the important part of children’s day. Its early in the morning, maybe they were woken up and brought to daycare. They might not be having a good morning. They might be hungry, never had breakfast or maybe not enough to eat. Could be still tired and just need them couple of minutes to cuddle with mommy or daddy. The room could be to loud children might not like noise early in the morning. Can not be feeling secure or having relationships with teachers because teachers are always rotating so children might not know who to trust. Also not knowing what room they 're going to be in each day because it changes in the morning, usually children go into the baby room until the other teachers arrives. Said by Maslow and Erikson theory “we can help children meet their needs for security and help them develop trust, atuomny or initiative during arrival times”. So maybe knowing the steps of the routine for arrival time example {come in hang coats and backpack up, get in door shoes on and coming into the room and finding an activity to do. This helps the feeling of security.) Not enough material out in the room to entice them to come in, room not set up for arrival. So adding material and setting up stations might get their attention. Also loosing their …show more content…
The children came into the room with less problems they were excited to hear the music playing in the background softly. It made them feel relax coming in, gave them that security. There was new material set out on the tables that they didn’t see before, so that caught their interest it was a quiet room, the room wasn’t so bright lights were out and lamps on. It also puts a lot of relief on the parents too, they didn’t have to deal with a difficult drop off with their children. So parents weren’t having to stay for a longer period of time upon arrival. doing this transition activity made it easier for us as teachers, parents and the child it relief a lot of stressed.it started a foundation for the children to build trust, it also started giving the children what to look forward to when they arrive in the morning, like I mention before knowing the routine of your day can make your starting of the day a lot easier. I would love to keep doing this arrival time transition activity because it worked very well. Not saying that it worked for every child but it made it a lot stressful when children are arriving. There needs to be some changes and more observing so we can get the other ones that are still having that rough time coming in. things I would change is the material everyday or a couple times a week. So children do not get bored of what’s going on and that they come into different things once in a

The four stages are: Birth – two years - sensorimotor stage, two years to seven years – preoperational stage, seven years to eleven years – concrete operational stage, and eleven years to fifteen years – formal operational stage. This paper will address a classroom designed to benefit the development of toddlers who are in the preoperational stage (Lefrancois, 2012). Children in the early preoperational stage are extremely egocentric; that is they are unable to think about things from any point of view but their own (McLeod, 2010). Toddlers believe that everyone else sees, feels, and thinks the exact same way as they do.…

The other preschool classroom I observed was the Desert Vista High School Early Learning Center. The indoor environment of their classroom is smaller than my dream classroom but there is many different places for the children and students to play with toys, games and sing silly songs. Their indoor environment is very energetic because of the places and things that the children can play and do in the classroom with their classmates and teachers which is important because they want the children to have fun and feel safe. The outside environment is very cool because the children are able to do what they want and play and run off some energy but they are also able to play some pretty cool games with other children. There daily schedule is very simple because…

When observing a special education classroom I am not only observing the class, but I am observing a glimpse into my future as a teacher. I was privileged enough to observe a multi-needs intermediate classroom with students who range from eight to ten year olds at Hope D. Wall School who have moderate to server learning disorders and physical handicaps. The purpose of the multi-need classroom is for the teacher to assess which path the student will take after the year is over. For an example some students might need more intensive guidance during their education, while other students attend life skills classes in order to prepare for life outside of school. While I was observing the class, I was fortunate enough to witness the students participate…

The first days of school are the most crucial in implementing procedures and routines. For example, when a visitor walks into my room the students know to show “peace and quiet”. Also, to get my student’s attention I say, “Show Me Hands and Eyes” and they follow by repeating “Hands and Eyes”. This is a great way to get them focused quickly during instruction. Every child in my classroom has a job.…

Usually after this was done, we would quietly walk in a single file line down the hallway to the playground. That day, however, it was different. When I opened my eyes, instead of an orderly line of kindergartners, there was one little boy chaotically jumping up and down. As red in the face as a tomato, he seemed to be getting antsier by the second. “Teacher!…

The journal issue I read about was first day jitters for children. A young girl was experiencing her first day of preschool, clenching to her mother’s hand, not wanting to go inside, and crying as soon at her mother left. The journal mentioned how teachers can actually take advantage of this time as “an opportunity to help children learn the skills they need to express their emotions” (Fox & Lentini 2006). Transitioning from staying at home to going to preschool is a big step, and it takes time in order for the child to feel comfortable in a completely new setting. The article along with the journal mentions different home-to-school strategies you can use to help your child transition.…

A child’s abilities associated with memory, reasoning, problem solving and thinking are all a part of their cognitive development. Jean Paget, created an idea that children go through four steps of cognitive development. Up until a child reaches the age of two they are learning through their senses, reflexes and the way the manipulate materials. (Mooney, 2013 p.81) It is said that young children are just trying to find understanding in the world around them. The effect of them getting home later gives them lack of time to get their homework done and have less sleeping time. Schools need to make arrival time in the morning at least an hour or two later then usual time due to students not getting enough sleep.
