Transition into the Professional Nursing Role The final months of nursing school can be a nerve racking time because there are numerous steps to take and consider. In addition to registering for the NCLEX, working on ATI, preparing for our final exam, we are also researching and applying for jobs. This can be an overwhelming time, but it is also a very exciting adventure because we are seeing everything we have worked for fall into place. I will be seeking employment in Denver, Colorado but will be sitting for my license in Ohio then transferring it. Over the past couple months I have started researching the necessary steps needed to be eligible to work in Colorado. The biggest challenge I have come across is determining if I should sit for the NCLEX and get my license in Ohio then transfer it to Colorado or if I should wait and get my license in Colorado. I have still not found a definitive answer on the best approach, however, after researching and speaking with various people I believe that I have found the best way. The solution I have determined is that I will sit for the NCLEX and license in Ohio because I will be eligible to test faster then I will transfer my license in Colorado. Especially during the first year in my nursing career it is going to be very important that I am able to maintain this balance. I know that this is going to be a stressful time in my life therefore it will be important to have a healthy stress outlet. Fortunately, I have a wonderful support system at home that will help me through my first year and be there when I am feeling overwhelmed or stressed. In addition to starting a new job comes added responsibilities such as finances; it will be important for me to figuring out a system that works so I can maintain all my responsibilities in a less stressful way.
