The episode obviously took an position of sarcasm on this technology since the ending of the story is pathetic and the guy eventually took out the reservoir of memory. However, I think the episode was fair to take this position and didn’t totally deny the benefits of technology. For example, at the very beginning of the episode, when the man was going through the custom in the airport, the police used this technology to see whom Liam meet with before, and where Liam have been to. This seems so great to me because if this function is real, then the police will save a lot of time finding out the criminal, the potential terrorist, and so on. Also, at the dinner table ,the women, who didn’t agree to take out her reservoir of memory, said this technology can help the parents, who lost their children in a mall, to find out where, when, and how they lost their children, which is another great benefit of this technology. By way of extending to an extreme scenario while also only moving everything a small step beyond what we already have in life in terms of technology and society, the episode is trying to tell us that the technology is good as it removes the problem of reliability of human memory, and on the other hand, it’s not good because it destructs every trust between people and people. As it’s mentioned in the first video, technology usually follows very predictable and evolutionary path, and it’s the groundwork that’s laid by there previous technologies that allow there new level to be achieved. In the past, people with disabilities, such as the lack of arm or legs, couldn’t even image how it is like to have bionic limbs. However, nowadays it’s easily to get a bionic limb that not only helps you with basically physical movement but also can connect to your neural network and understand what your next move is. Similarly, today we can’t image how the world will be like with the implantable cameras in our eyes. However, the groundwork of developing such an advanced technology is solid and scientists are working on it. If the implantable cameras really come out in the future, I believe the life will be similar as described in the episode. What’s more, I think the development of technology is unlimited not just because the direction of scientific discover is uncertain and there are infinite possibilities, but also because human greed is unlimited and endless-that is, once people develop transhuman, they would want to develop more advanced technology. Also, I think we will become something other than human when the technology can take the place of every part of human
